Is Hard Rock just Blues Rock but with more distortion?

I'm still new to playing Hard Rock so correct me if I'm wrong.

To me, rock is rock. It all depends on the feel you put into it, I suppose. It all stems from the blues to begin with. I wouldn't worry about it too much and just play what feels right to you. I play a lot of electronic type music that sounds nothing like what people would think of as the blues, but it is definitely an influence.

Hard Rock - Aerosmith / Mountain

Blues Rock - Mayall / J Geils

IMO.

Let's not go to Goth, Garage, Metal, Surf, Grunge and other sub genres of Rock.

Blues rock is when "mostly blues" is played with in a rock context.
Example: Stevie Ray Vaughan, George Thorogood

Hard rock is the heavy end of rock before it is considered metal, and is only "influenced" by blues.
Example: AC/DC, Pat Travers Band, Ted Nugent

There are few bands that straddle the line between these two genres: Led Zeppelin, Black Crowes

I would say that blues rock is bluesier than hard rock.
Heavy metal is more distorted than hard rock.
