Texas Guitar Slinger's recent post, her academic achievement in particular, brought to mind a book on my shelf which was a gift from a colleague when I retired. It's entitled "Musicophilia"...'Tales of Music and the Brain', by Oliver Sacks. Sacks is a physician[neurology and psychology]. If you'd enjoy some interesting insights into what makes the likes of us tick, and more, give it a read.

In saying "her academic achievement", you are referring to the 4.0 GPA? .... Or the learning of the Rory Gallagher song on mandolin?

What makes physicians tick? I believe it's called money. I haven't seen a caring doctor since my childhood pediatrician.

or if ..."the likes of us..." is referring to musicians who enjoy making music,
then I say:
Thanks for the recommendation, ZeeZ!

I hope the reading doesn't presume a PhD-level reader.
If that's the case, for my sake, I hope it has lots of pictures. 8)

Sorry to disappoint those who are accustomed to buying literature that is sealed in plastic. However, this is not the case.

i always buy my periodicals sealed in plastic...... Black of course.... No need to embarrass anyone with IQ pretensions....

On a serious note, Rory Galagher on mandolin is equivalent to Bela Fleck playing Bach on the banjo... Will have to tune in to TGS's latest musical adventures.
Any updates on her Lounge Caster ??

I have that book. I started reading it and gave up after a couple of chapters. It was just a bunch of anecdotal personal stories. I was expecting either some science or at least some kind of postulation of a theory or a commentary or something. It did not grab my attention.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
