Just been reading more from the guitarz blog and I think the 12-string Squier could be improved by combining it with this customisation ...

Kind of a cool idea--an early Gibson electric had a long pickup slanted kind of like that--so with two you could use a regular sized pickup-

I'd like to hear what it sounds like.
