Just wondering if anyone knows the max plate voltage for a Silvertone 6V6GTA (312). I wanted to try them in a deluxe reverb with 398v on the plate.

Thanks for any help.

312 indicates it was made by Sylvania, known for being somewhat rugged.

The GTA tube is rated at 350V at the plate (vs 315 for a GT). Internal structural changes mainly allowed for this.

This is only a generic figure as some tubes, and some brands, can be pushed much higher than that.

Every Fender 6V6 amp is pushing these tubes well beyond their design spec. The result is usually shortened tube life.

The 6V6 was created in the 1930's primarily for use as a Radio Tube and didn't see anywhere near the PV that Leo pushed them to.

It would work in an amp, but likely not for any great length of time.

IMHO, it would be best to simply sell the tube to a Radio enthusiast who can really get the most benefit from it and pick up a more amp-friendly Tube instead of diluting the supply needlessly.

If you decide to go ahead, watch carefully for any fireworks in the tube. Also, how recently were the caps changed?

cheers!

My datasheet says 300 Volts maximum plate, 310 Volts maximum screens and 13.2 Watts dissipation. How much current do you expect to run them at?

Speaking of stressed 6v6's, you may be interested in Tubelab George's experiments (or more accurately torture sessions) involving 6v6 tubes run over spec, he runs Sylvanias at insane dissipation level (535 Volts Ia!).
