Come on Man! Cut Dylan a sprout, every musician out there has made some sort of artistic compromise...let's not all act like Dylan is the only one. Hell the RHCP's were not even plugged in for pity's sake!

It is easy to say I wouldn't do a commercial for this or that, until Chrysler (or some other company) drives that big pile of cash up to your doorstep.

Last time I checked, if Fender offered any of you a Stratocaster for free if you would play it onstage, there would be a line a mile or two long to sign up for em. And I don't remember Dylan ever saying he would never endorse a product so I think his principles are intact!

Don't project your personal standards (or lack of them) onto others!

Ok...Climbing back down off my soap box.

True, imagine how many guitars are used on stage that are given to artist free or made special order at no cost just so manufactures name get seen and all the wannabes have to have one.

The thing that I think many people (me included) don't fully comprehend is how financially strangling the music industry can be. Artists are lent the money to record albums and to tour, and have to pay it all back. They are also "advanced" money to live on and buy gear that also needs to be paid back. If the tour or album don't recoup all this debt, that does not remove the artist from still being on the hook to have to pay it back. Further, many artists are forced into contracts where the royalties are often very low -- this is especially true for new artists signing their first or second contract. Because of all this, it is very difficult for artists to get really rich unless they can string three or more big albums together, which is very difficult.

Now, back in the '90s, Dylan's son had a band the Wallflowers whose debut album sold X millions of copies and was a big hit. It was reported then that this Wallflowers album sold more copies than any single Bob Dylan album. When I hear that, along with knowing (a bit) of how strangling the financial end of the music industry can be, it is okay in my book to do a bit of a cash grab.

Man! You guys who criticize Dylan should take it someplace else, maybe Twitter or something like that. Did you even listen to the guitar in the commercial??? I loved it and have played the ad 10 tumes just to listen to the guitar. Wish I could find the sound track someplace. Have a nice day. Croat

Hell...I remember Dylan from my days in the Village back yonder when. He broke the chain when he went electric, moving onward and upward. Ceased being used and abused as the spokesman for a generation and its movement. His erstwhile sycophants thought he was going to be their Woody Guthrie, but no. There's enough out there in print to document many of the other product endorsements he's done and lent his music to.

BTW: You're seeking "Things Have Changed".... a track from "Wonder Boys"...and the theme music for the same entitled motion picture.

Have a nice day :!:

Along those lines ... among many other classics, Bob Dylan wrote and recorded "Tangled Up In Blue". Anyone who wants to criticize should be asked, "What have YOU written??"
