Well I have been thinking about buying a new amp. I've narrowed it down to two that I think I like. I own a mustang 1 so I know about the mustang features and I like them. I've got a 1983 super champ tube amp that was my wife's late father but don't use to often the reverb on it is not working but has nice clean tone's. Have a Stratocaster and like to play blues and rock. Pedals I use are TS9 and rocktron fuzz . Watched a lot youtube on the blues junior and it sounds real nice . Mustang 3 offers a lot of amp for a good price.

This isn't even a competition. Get yourself a BJ, the Mustangs are god awful.

I own a Mustang V. It depends if you are looking for a lot of bells and whistles or not. Honestly, tube amps sound better in my opinion. At the end of the day, the choice is yours.

I am a bass guitarist so don't have experience with those amps but am interested in which one you choose. Keep us posted.

Depends on what your looking for. Do you want an amp that can give you basically one very good type of sound or do you need an amp with versatility (Many good sounds).

The Junior... It does what it does very well... but that's it. Not very versatile.
The III is versatile. Very powerful 100 watt SS. Tones are outstanding... and it cuts thru the mix. Own one, Gig it and have nothing bad to say about.

All I've used in the past (playing 30+ years... been in LOTS of bands...) were tube amps. WAS a bona-fide "Tube Snob"... till I got my Mustang III about a year ago.
I love it. Get anything I want out of it from Crunchy High Gain to smooth, mellow Fender Clean tones... and everything in between.

Do I recommend it... Absolutely. For the price point it can't be beat and it's very user friendly once you get the hang of how to ride it. There is a learning curve to this amp... but it's worth it. Doesn't take long.

Forget either one of them and get the 83 Super Champ to a good amp tech and get the reverb fixed! The Super Champ is far superior to either one of the amps you listed.

IMHO/YMMV

AND get the Mustang III for some versatility. You can NEVER have too many amps. :)

Since you already have a decent modeling amp albeit not a very loud or top-of-the-line model, you can always mic it if need be for extra volume. After owning a Blues Jr.,I can vouch for that being a stellar little amp that has tons of soul and is great for everything as is except for heavy metal etc.Engaging the fat button can really amp up the raunch factor of the BJ and just using a natural overdrive you can produce the warmest, smoothest, bluesy sustain you could ever want. When played clean with a 'bucker equipped hollow of semi hollow body jazz type guitar the BJ really shines and you can get a really mellow Wes Montgomery/Joe Pass tone from it.

Although the Mustang 3 can give you models of several iconic amps in one small package, the Blues Jr. can give you the most pleasing and varied tones that you could ever hope to get from a regular A-B type amp in such a low price range.

BTW: A lot of people have found that the Celestion Vintage 30 option really opens up and broadens the tonal range of the Blues Jr. and is well worth the upcharge.

Further BTW: I may be wrong saying that the BJ is a type A-B amp,if so please don't bombard me with ridicule-I'm not an amp guru by any means.

My standard advice in a situation like this.....get both! :D

When I went searching for a small, affordable, simple amp with a good sound, I checked out so many that I can't remember them all, many modeling and SS, and when I first plugged into a BJr, the search was over. I really like my BJr, and am not a fan of any of the modeling amps that I've tried, but I have not tried the Mustang III, so I can't comment on it other than believing in the recommendations of some of this members of this forum that own them.

I think I'm with the advice of getting the Champ fixed.

But if I had to choose between the Mustang or the BJ, I'd get the Mustang. I had a BJ for about 2-months and couldn't get into it. It does clean and crunch, that's it. And in all honesty, I didn't like the reverb in it. I had to sell it. Wasn't my thing. I tried tube swaps and speaker swaps to tone down the constant heavy mids, and it just wasn't happening. I'd rather have the versatility and wattage of the Mustang. It's a ton more useful in my opinion.

I agree with getting the Super Champ fixed. It is a great amp.

Had a Blues Jr. for years and always found something lacking in tone. Finally, when i couldn't sell it (and wasn't going to 'give' it away) I converted it to a head and play it through several different 2X12 cabs I own. Now I love it's sound. BUT, I would never buy with the intent of the conversion....too costly.

+1 for the Mustang III... it is literally the best value in amplifiers on the market today.

The Blues Jr. is great if you want a 15 watt amp for playing the blues but it doesn't do much else... doesn't even have an effects loop to plug a floorboard or effects processor into. The Mustang III can do anything and everything.

+1000

I believe in having a good modeling practice amp at home. I play jazz, blues, rock, metal, so the M3 is just awesome, the sound and the versatility.
I have a 1-2 tube amp that sounds better of course, but it need something like the M at home.
So repair the 83 and you might still have some cash left for the mustang :D
