Here comes the real question:

Mullard or Sovtek?

I'm definitely replacing the preamp tube whenever. This amp is used, so I'm not sure how much life the stock tube has left. New tubes are like $15, so it's not that big of a deal.

Mullard is cleaner, but you won't see a glow. But what the Orange guys usually recommend is JJ.

I wanna tweak the tone just enough to to give me gain to spare.

For high gain, some people use Tung-Sol, but in your case with a hybrid amp, you do not necessarily want a high gain tube, because feeding high gain to the solid state power section won't do much good. You need the break-up to occur in the pre-amp. So Sovtek 12XA7WA (not WB, WC or LPT) would probably work well for that purpose. Plus side is that they're relatively cheap and last forever when not DOA.

Yea, I'm talking about reissues as well.

I guess I'll try a sovtek

I dialed the tone a bit more. No extensive clips until I have a drummer with me ;)

You didn't knock the beer off the cab - you obviously need to increase the gain!

It was coffee, it weighs too much to be knocked over. Also, it shakes my floor, and that's through 2 of the 4 speakers. Much louder than my 200W Crate.
