Either an overdrive or some sort of metal-zone pedal. Any suggestions?

You can't go wrong with the Ibanez TS-9. The Tube Screamer is the standard everyone else aspires to.

Actually, try to find one of those Blood Drive pedals from Coffin case. Basically a supercharged TS-9 that can get a classic overdrive and some modern gain, but not much for metal. And if you can stand the the gawdy coffin/skull look.

If you get a distortion pedal I suggest the Death Metal pedal by Digitech. I don't know the cost but that shouldn't be hard to find.
