I'm building my project guitar up, and a while ago I ordered some copper foil, and a shielding kit that included some shielding paint. The instructions that came with the kit and foil were for a strat, though obviously not limited to them.

My project guitar is basically a les Paul in a strat body. Rear routed, no scratchplate, twin humbucker and LP style controls. The cavity cover plates will be stainless steel.

I have never done any work to a guitar, so this is all new to me. Keeping in mind my project specs, do I need to use any of the shielding stuff I brought, or will it be better used on my proper strat or one of my teles?

I suspect that with traditional humbuckers and their attendant shielded leads, the shielding paint and foil will be unnecessary on this guitar.

You really don't need shielding paint and foil in the same guitar. That's kinda over-kill. I would put it together and use the shielding paint in all the cavities and see how it sounds. If there's no hum issues, then you're home free.

i generally put 3 -4 coats of the shielding paint on every guitar I build or restore. It is probably overkill but that is how i like to build stuff. Never use the tape style but it is very popular.

Thanks for the replies. I will probably put some of the paint in the control cavity, bit will keep the foil sheet for my SSS strat, which could certainly do with some help in that department! On with the build, now Where's my soldering iron..........
