Oooh.. What's that dark red P-90 one on the right? That's sweet!!

I can't do thick bodied contour Les Pauls anymore. I find them uncomfortable. So I switched to more comfortable Schecter Tempests. But Pauls with Special type bodies are fine. I pimped out a good Epiphone Special II, and I swear I like it much better than my old LP Studio. Hollow bodies and Specials, I'm totally down with.

I love this place I've learned so much. Now I've learned that gibsons suck. I guess all these people playing les Paul's just don't have a clue. My 61 ri SG is the best playing guitar that I've ever owned in the 40 yrs of playing guitar. My LP is a monster but what do I know.

Methinks that Arjay has hittith the nail right on the head. It was only a couple of days ago in this forum that I said what I think about brand snobbery,I basically said that I just laugh when I see people expressing views that only one brand is worth playing or that one particular brand is garbage because they are in fact proclaiming that they have bugger all knowledge about guitars. The guitars that Gibson is turning out today may not be up to the standards that they were made in during the pre-Norlin days but they still make some really decent guitars-especially their established acoustics such as the SJ 200 and 400 the Dove,Hummingbird,J-45 and J-160-E,which are still among the benchmark acoustics that all other acoustics are compared to.Sure Gibson has turned out some flops such as the disasterous 2009 release of a new model that lasted less than 8 hours-the doomed and much ridiculed Gibson Hendrix "Strat",The Dusk Tiger and Dark Fire also didn't catch near as well as they had foretold or expected and sales were dismally poor. Having said all that,I still wouldn't turn down a Gibson SG Custom or a '59 or '60 Les Paul reissue or one of their incredible jazz boxes such as the ES-5,Super V CES,ES-175,ES 335,345 & 355 and a host of other fine guitars that they make or have made.

From now on before you decide to make a blanket statement denouncing something, make sure that you know what you are talking about,if not you will always be seen as just a loud mouthed schnook with no credibility.

I have two Gibson guitars, and they are both screaming nice players. Considering how Gibson guitars "suck" so much, I just feel lucky to have purchased ... evidently ... two of the "very rare" AMAZING ones that Gibson managed to make along with all the other squalor coming out of their factories. Sometimes it's better to be lucky than good ...

I have an L.P. exactly like that, is that a Traditional Pro? Gibson definately does not suck in my opinion. I dig the $@!& outta my Les Paul and my S.G. Standard, I also love my Olympic White American Standard Stratocaster, 3 totally different guitars. Don't tell Bonamassa, Page, Slash, Gary Moore, Nugent ect... that Gibson sucks.

Luckily nothing what anyone says on here matters, for or against the "G". You'd be a fool to go and buy a guitar purely based on what someone else wants to own.

On a personal note, I am over Gibsons, Epiphones, Ibanez and the like. I have owned them from my first electric up until last year (which spans 20yrs). I am just in my Fender phase now. It's personal.

Linnin opend a 55gallon can of worms BUT I think he may be talking for the most part about Gibson basses. And I have to say I have never had money in my wallet to buy a bass with and thought: "GEE I THINK I"LL GO BUY A GIBSON BASS" DAHHH!!!! Some of them might be pretty nice- Grabber or whatever but I never got into Gibson basses. The best sounding one may be a Thunderbird BUT those are kind of a specialty bass . I think the distance from the nut to the first fret on a T- Bird is about 5 inches. But to each his own. I really don't think I'd get mad if someone said Fenders suck. I don't care. I still have a bunch.

Next - maybe linn is stirring the pot on this anyway- But one thing is for sure- Fender Basses are the #1 bass in the whole wide parking lot dudes! Write it down.

Over priced? Not really. factor in inflation and they're not overpriced at all.
Gibson has entry level guitars that are hand built in the U.S.A. for less than $600 and they are a little more complex to build than a bolt-together guitar. I know because I just built a Tele and it wasn't rocket science even the wiring. Fender, you have to go to China or Mexico to get something inexpensive.

I wouldn't trade this one for anything. It was great right out of the box.

Here's the Tele I built

Making a statement that "Gibson, Fender or whatever Sucks" or both are too "expensive" is pretty funny. You obviously need a job.

Hahhaha, I'm convinced that the entire Gibson bass market is kept afloat by guys stuck in a band with guitarists who are afraid to let them use a real bass because it would take attention off them.

Everytime I've ever heard a Gibson bass. No matter how good the player. I always think. "Man, that would have sounded really good on a P or J." The only time I've ever heard someone get a really sweet tone from one was Simon Gallup from The Cure. Even that was the Epi Jack Cassidy that he plays.

The guitars definitely have their place. Mike Ness gets killer tone on his LP through his Bassman.

1) Yes - Les Paul Standard Trad Pro -- The pickups, the coiltaps, the knobs, the tuners. For me, there are no mods I could make that would improve it. Great playing instrument.
2) Ironically, similar to you, my other Gibson is also an SG Standard (1979).
3) Your user name is Mopar guy. I also have a hemi 2011 Dodge Charger red-badge R/T in Toxic Orange.
