has anybody seen this show on axs tv?

I tuned in about a year ago or so for the first time. they had a few really good "tribute" bands on in that time, my faves being beatles, led zep, and metallica. they had a very close sound.

I was kind of surprised when I watched the Monday night "eagles" tribute. while the band was good, the vocals seemed nowhere near the original. don't know if I expected too much, but I thought it should sound a little like the singers who recorded them.

anybody else see it? any opinions?

I've seen the show, and I agree they were a good band, just the cover part wasn't as good.
When I see a cover band it's fun to check out the little things they do to get as close as they can to the sound and image of the band.
It seemed to me these guys weren't trying to much in vocals and image.
Still it was fun
It's a good show, I'll keep dvr-ing it for sure

I just 'found' this channel (AXS) recently....glad I did.

I watched that show also and agree with you both. Instrumentally they were GREAT. Vocally....some good and some not so. The guy who did the Henley stuff was good at times (I thought he even resembled Henley physically.); the "Timothy B Schmit" counterpart tried to copy, but it was a strain for him....wasn't bad, but not great either. The worst IMO was the other lead singer, who kept going sharp. I don't know if he couldn't hear properly, but it was like fingernails on a chalk board to me.

Overall, I thought the vocal harmonies were decent. To call them one of the "World's Greatest Tribute Bands" would be quite a stretch. Having said all that, I watched it from beginning to end, so it couldn't have been too bad (except for my cringing when the one singer kept going sharp). After all, trying to 'copy' the Eagles is a major chore, vocally! Probably more difficult than the Beatles.

Off topic sorta......Same night had the Doobie's. WOW, they've still got it! Now there's some vocal harmony along with great instrumentals. Although I think Michael McDonald is a great singer, the Doobie's weren't the Doobie's in his era. This original group with Tom Johnston is real Doobie's. Now this would be another VERY difficult band to 'tribute'.

I've seen Australian Pink Floyd and they were amazing. I also saw a Beatles tribute band called Rain and they were also great.

i don't know about eagles tribute bands, but i have seen/been seen in many others.
it can be a mixed bag. michael white and the white are one of the only led zep tribute bands endorsed by jimmy page. they do a great job, and sound a hell of alot like zeppelin. judas priestess on the other hand, is a really cool band who does a great show, but is less like priest. i dont mind so much, the singer is really hot. i was in a tribute band, a long time ago. we did an ac/dc show, a black sabbath show, and a judas priest show. we wore the correct costumes, copied the stage moves, and usually played pretty close to the record. we were pretty good, but the priest show was a little lacking. getting a guy who can properly sing halford isn't easy.

Never been much for tribute bands..... I have been fortunate to have seen / heard many of the originals at least once.... For me the tribute bands don't come close, just on the fact that it's not the collective of the originals ... They'll never have those unique and personal experiences that are so critical to the creative input of the band...

Like Led Zep, or Pink Floyd, or Moody blues, or the early versions of the Allman Brother's, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Queen, Reo Speedwagon, Van Halen, The Clash, Black Sabbath, The Faces, Foghat and dozens more...

Give me a band that plays the songs excellently while at the same time interjecting their own identity and I will go and listen...
A band that mimics the originals, note for note, costume and all ..... Meh
But that is also why I believe Music has to be progressive, there is a certain point when and where a band ceases to be relevant, a band that does not adapt and stay creatively fresh is no longer a band but an automaton just going thru the motions....

There's a few big acts out there that have long passed their sell date ... Robert Plant and Jimmy Page were a prime example of two musicians who refused to bring back Led Zep ( except for one exception ) because they knew that the magic had passed... Be it a combination of time and different perspectives, diverging goals.... etc...

I saw Led Zep in 75 but also saw Robert Plant and Allison Kraus in 2011.... Same energy and musicianship but a very different palette....

Then again to each their own and YMMV ( Martian )

There sued to be an Alice Coper tribute guy that would play clubs around here--I forget his name.
He looked a lot like Alice, except his nose was noticeably larger than Alice's.

He did a good job at early Alice when it was still the Alice Cooper Band.
And he did later stuff too.
