New ( used ) amp day !

It sounds every bit as good as I had imagined !

Cosmetically it's a bit road worn and relic'd , to be expected , I bought it from a guy who just completed a 30,000 km tour . I guess you could say it has mojo.

Never mind the funky look to the chassis , it's chromed and reflects the textured ceiling , I tilted the amp to take the picture .

Thank's , for now , all I can say is WOW !!! it's a beast !

That 15 moves some air !!

I had to release the snare on my drum kit , the buzzing almost had me fooled that there was issues with the amp.

I couldn't crank it in buddy's apartment , now that it's here I can let'er rip !

Nice! Great sound isn't it?

I was asked to do a recording session last week and I was all excited to bring mine to the studio. Then the producer says he wants to use plugins for the recording. Bummed me out a little. I really wanted to put it to the test. I'd love to capture that clean breakup in a good studio.

Have fun. Warning: The Delta Blues is addicting.

I played through this amp much of yesterday afternoon , SO nice !!! about 7 on the clean channel , add reverb to taste. Tone heaven !!

A - B - C 'd it against my Fender Excelsior and my Blues junior NOS , no contest !
The winner , hands down , is the Delta Blues , second is the Blues Jr (w/ Jensen ) and third is the Excelsior.

I'm happy !

I've put a deposit on another guitar too , an Epiphone ES 339 Pro in Vintage Sunburst.

I may be an "all Fender" guy,...BUT,...maybe I should give one of those Peavey rigs a try! Just wondering how a Tele or a Strat would sound through that Delta Blues 115,...or even the 210 version compared to my Fender HRD III,...which I do love,BTW! How much difference in tone is there between an EL84 powered amp(Delta Blues) and a 6L6(my HRD III)powered amp? Never been a big fan of Peavey,...maybe the Delta Blues will change my mind,...who knows!

Cheers
Dewey

As far as the guitars go, I would say it depends on your style. I personally like my humbucker equipped guitars better through it, but I think it's more because of the style I'm playing. So far, my favorite sound is coming from my duncan '59s modded with A8 and A2 magnets. But I haven't really had it long enough to really get deeper into the strengths it has concerning single coils. My Telecaster is under the knife so to speak.

I have a Fender Hot Rod DeVille 4x10, and it really is a different amp in comparison. The Cleans on my HRDV are more lush sounding for sure. I don't think even the people at Peavey would dispute that. It's a different pallette with much more headroom.

The peavey seems to have something in the midrange that I immediately noticed. But it's in a good way. That's where I heard an immediate difference with the cleans at a lower volume without breakup. When you turn it up, and it breaks up, there's not a sound on my HRDV that compares to it. It's not even close. That 15 just hits you in the face with a beautiful crunch sound. And it's not just a rhythm type crunch, solos are really nice on it as well. I only ever really liked the clean channel on my Fender, and I used pedals through it for any kind of overdrive or distortion. I think the Peavey is a little more versatile on its own, but only because the overdrive channel sounds better to my ears. I think I'm still going to use pedals for my distortion solos, so there wouldn't be a whole lot of difference to me in that area.

I think between my HRDV and Peavey, I wouldn't be able to say one is better than the other. They both have their one thing that's very good and outshines the other. The Fender with its cleans, the Peavey with its crunch.. And it has me very inclined to get an A/B pedal and switch back and forth between the two in the future. Talk about an insane live setup. It would have to be an outdoor situation though. There's no way I'd be able to pull that off at an average local gig.

Peavey never tried to be Fender. That's what's great about them. They have their own voice. That's why I like so many different amps. Egnater, Fender, Pignose, the amps I've built. It all adds to the sonic pallet. Some of my favorite tones come when I run my Egnater Rebel 20 and Deluxe clone with a AB/Y box I built. Sounds seriously huge with endless tonal variations.

Any of you Delta Blues owners have had this problem with their amp? The described problem starts at 1m10s. Or is it a scam intended to make them look bad?

The moment he mentioned reverb problems I knew what was going to happen. I've seen Fender Twins and Ampegs do precisely the same thing, the easy fix is to remove the reverb tank and shift it to the bottom of the cab. I've seen it cured with rubber feet attached to the reverb tank too.

It's feedback, the speaker makes the reverb springs rattle, the amp amplifies it, the springs rattle more. Not limited to Peavey amps by any means.

+1

Leo Fender was quite adamant about the design of his reverb-equipped combos, insisting that the tank be isolated from the cabinet by means of a cardboard spacer riding on a pair 1/8" plywood skids. Though the method may have appeared to be cheap, it was quite effective at preventing feedback into the reverb springs due to kinetic coupling between the tank and the cabinet.

Mine actually did that hum when I first bought it. It was an easy fix. I put a piece of cardboard underneath the tank, wrapped the tank with felt, put it back inside the bag, put a piece of the felt underneath the bag, and screwed it to the furthest bottom corner away from the speaker. Hasn't done it since.

So it is a problem that does exist, but a very easy fix.
