Look good - glad the MM neck worked out for you. I never had any luck with their necks for various reasons. The guitar has a cool vibe to it!

Mike, it needed a little work. Sharp fret ends and two slightly high frets. No twists or anything major. Not too bad for what I paid for it.

Cool.... How was the quality of the unfinished body from Stew Mac ...??

Gives me an idea of shaping one out of Fir....
Just another Pinus Geneus.... 8)

The body is really first rate. I didn't do a huge amount of sanding because that's the look I wanted. The neck pocket was perfect. They don't drill the holes all the way through in case you want to mount a top string load bridge. The routes are really clean and perfect. I think it's a pretty cool look. I asked them for funky looking body.

You have certainly done a top notch job on that Tele, the knotty pine body with that transparent blue finish gives it the really cool weathered look of board that has been on a barn for many decades. With all the top quality components that you have put into the guitar,it promises to be a first choice for a go to guitar. Enjoy your new beauty-of course,I'm sure that you will.

I know with my "project Strat", it took me quite a while to really get the guitar dialed in so that it was truly "locked on and homing". Mine has humbuckers, and it took a long while to get the wiring with the coil taps operating just right. Also, it took quite a bit to get the intonation dead-nails on. I used a Mighty Mite neck, too, which I love, but initially it had major sharp fret edges on both sides that needed SIGNIFICANT work to make right. Dealing with all that, it was quite a bit of work through to make the guitar right and a real player. Now that I am through the forest and everything is perfect on it, it is definitely worth the effort. But as I struggled to get there, I was not completely sure I was going to get it playing the way I always envisioned it to.

Was your experience similar? Or do it all come together pretty fast for you?

The Mighty Mite fret end are horrible. The rest of the neck was fine except for two slightly high frets, no twist or serious bow. It takes a little while for everything to settle in and become a guitar. The rest of it went pretty quickly. As far as intonation, I have it really close but not perfect because I opted for the old style bridge with three brass saddles so you adjust two strings at a time. Not the most ideal situation, but the tone just rings with a nice heftiness to it.
For me it was a fair tradeoff. I opted for a four way switch. I've never wired anything for coil tapping. I know that would be a little more complex. I've built a couple of amps and have played with electronics since I was a kid so the wiring diagrams are a little familiar. What I do is every connection I make, I highlight that connection with a highlighter so I don't get all screwed up. I'm a geezer and am pretty easily confused.

The final product is every bit as good as any Tele I've ever played and better than the one I owned.

I will soon be finishing my telestratopaul soon, I'm not particularly looking forward to setting it up. During the build I've been mostly winging it and changing ideas all the time, so I've just got my fingers crossed it plays ok. The neck is the lowest quality part of the guitar, as I'm waiting on finding a particular neck on ebay, so I'm not overly concerned if I don't like the neck I have.

Same here. Your build sounds really interesting. So far I like it and it's starting to grow on me. I used copper shielding tape in all the cavities to prevent hum and and where I used different pieces of tape, I overlapped them and used a little solder on the seam and checked continuity, them I grounded the tone pot to to it. It makes for a very quiet single coil guitar.

Thanks so much! If you can, post some photos of your build or just PM them to me.

Already having my Fender single coil guitars (a SSS Strat and a SS Tele Thinline), I always had the desire for a HH Strat. When someone who owed me some money offered up a Fender HH sunburst body since he knew I played guitar, I knew instantly I was going to be headed down the "project Strat" road. I did not know how to verify if the body really was Fender or not, but I believe it is (based on the source and the quality) -- but it was HH, nice burst finish, well made, and made of alder (or at least I believe it to be based on the grain -- I am not a wood expert, though).

Components:
- Fender-licensed Mighty Mite neck (22 fret, r/w board, large headstock) -- Fabulous neck except for the fret ends which took forever to be filed down and made right
- F-spaced Dimarzio pups -- PAF Pro Joe (neck) & PAF Pro (bridge)
- Single Volume & single Tone knobs (the second Tone knob is for looks only), with coiltap on poth pups by pulling out Tone knob
- Standard 3-way pup selector
- Fender body
- Fender Am Std tuners
- Fender MIM Std bridge/block/springs (since pic was taken, I also changed out the stamped saddles for Fender powder coat ones)
- Fender neck plate
- Fender knobs
- Fender hard shell case

Overall:
As mentioned before it took a long while to get the fret ends, the intonation, and coil-tap wiring all to where it should be. But it is all there now ... and this guitar is (if I do say so myself) awesome.
