i recently purchased a 2004 Fender Stratocaster Deluxe. It is a stunningly beautiful guitar that is a semi-translucent cream (or off white) with a gold pick guard. Could anyone please tell me what is the official color combination name for this guitar? Usually the colors have an official name. I will try to put pics up as soon as i take some good ones and figure out how to post pics.

i think that honey blond is correct... it is slightly translucent. The gold pick guard is almost like the aztec gold where it is a very deep almost mustardish gold.

Hi zenbone: like this?

Image

If so, then yes, that's a honey blonde Am Dlx with an anodized gold pickguard. Honey blonde can often look more transparent than in that photo.

PERFECT! yup that is the one. Thanks so much!
i gotta say at first glance of the images i didn't think i would like it but when i went to play it i really thought it was a stunning guitar. Not only how it feels and plays but the colors just look right together.

I know what you mean. I think honey blonde is one of those finishes that can look a lot different in real life to photos. If you like it that's nice; it's one of the age-old classic Fender finishes.

Enjoy that geet! :)

Cheers - C

I've heard the term "Mary Kaye" finish for Fender's translucent white color.

"Mary Kaye" is white blonde with gold hardware. White blonde is much lighter/whiter than honey blonde. White blonde is more commonly available with chome/nickel hardware -- then it's just "white blonde", not "Mary Kaye".

Mary Kaye was a '50s jazz/rock musician who had Fender build her a white blonde '56 Strat with gold hardware. She's mostly forgotten today (other than that color combination) but she was pretty famous back in the day and Fender used her and her guitar in early promo pics. It was never an official model -- Signature models didn't start until the '80s -- but as one of the first custom Strats, the combo of white blonde with gold hardware quickly became known as the Mary Kaye model.

If I were to name its color, it'll be more likely a chocolate.

Gorgeous guitar! Honey Blonde is an awesome finish. I always hoped they'd do a 57 AVS P in honey instead of white blonde. I think it'd look really sharp if you got a faux Bakelite blackgaurd made for it.

Of course not the same, but in vibe the guitar on this thread is not a million miles from Dave Gilmour's 001 Strat:

Image

As we know, it's not really the first Strat ever made. But definitely a very early one. The anodized gold pickguard is the key to the look. I'm sure Dave's is not Honey Blonde: I think it's just white lacquer that has gone thin and yellow with age.

Whatever: it's a cool look! :)

Cheers - C
