Yeah, I know what that's like. The only thing you can do is keep on truckin' and usually something will fall into place. Just like water off a duck's arse. How many other sayings should I through in here? :P

You did mention it was 3 out of 5 that went south on the project... What's the deal w/ the other member (or other "former" band member.)? Perhaps they're willing to work w/ you to build something new.
Yes the lead guitarist is the guy who asked me to join up. Young buck. He apprenticed under me 15+ years ago and and at that time when he wanted to buy his first pro grade guitar for a band he was in I sold him one of mine. He and I are tossing around the idea of forming an acoustic duo for the short term but it's not the same thing as a full band of course.

Oh! You're bad! That's prolly why we love you.

There are two forum members, Big Jay, and Airbornestrat, not heard from in these parts for quite some time whose wives are totally supportive of their music interest. You'll find Jay's band as 'Sons of Groove;, in MN. That's not his primary gig, but he's not held up from it at all.

Like others have said, bands come and go all the time. Sh** happens. Some work out, some don't.

I remember the last band (a not yet gigging "garage band") that I was in with a good friend of mine. My friend and I always hung together and co-wrote 7 original tunes. Since we were sort of like a duo, we hooked up with (of all people) his boss - who also knew some people and had a little trio thing going. Long story short, we ended up merging. They thought it was awesome that not only was I co-lead guitarist, but I was also the multi-instrumentalist in the band. Horns? Gotcha covered. Keyboards? Gotcha covered. Even a mandolin strumming in the background on a quiet piece? Gotcha covered.

But soon tragically, as things happen to bands, my friends boss somehow decided that he was going to be THE BOSS. All of the sudden, he decided that HE will take over and dictate when and where we would rehearse, what songs we would work on, etc... Those 7 original tunes that my friend and I wrote? The band liked some of them. "The Boss" didn't want any part of them, and refused to let us rehearse any of them.

Long story short... The first time in my life, I bailed out of a band, which soured the friendship a little with my songwriting buddy. Soon after, the whole band split up and went their separate ways. In order to for a band to work, I believe you have to have a mutual understanding and respect towards one another. One member of the band should NEVER become a so called "Band Nazi" or else the band will dissolve very quickly.

Right now? I am solo. I write my own songs, play all the instruments on my songs, and record them on Audacity. One of these days I'll get back into a band, but it's hard to find anyone over 50 that is still actively playing.

I recently met a widow on Piece Of Fish and I think there may be potential there. Her late husband was also a musician and she sounds like she is the supportive type. Fingers crossed. Haven't been to her place yet but she tells me he had some impressive gear including a couple of Martins and possibly a vintage Fender amp but she doesn't know which model or how old. Says she's going to hang on to it and looks forward to hearing me play it. I'm looking forward to it as well. Obviously. Maybe it's true when one door closes another opens. Who knows? Maybe she even has a few musos in her circle for me to meet.

That sucks mate. I only had 1 band before this one, and I quit it because they weren't serious enough, we weren't practicing enough and nothing was happening. Told them I'd quit if they wouldn't have gotten their $@!& together, which they said they wouldn't.

A few months later I founded a new band with other band members quite younger than me (I was 18 at the time, they were 13) but we all got together very well musically. I know I wouldn't play the guitar even half as good as I do now (and I do know I have a ton to learn, the more I learn, the more I see how much else I've got to learn) if it weren't for that band. We'd have a record out by now if it weren't for a few setbacks - our bass player who also sang back vocals quitting and 2 months later she dragged away our singer as well.
We got a new bass player, who also quit (the darn bassists!), another guitarist and, after our singer went, also replaced her by a new singer. We are now teaching her how to play bass, which she plays while singing during the songs with easy bass line (and me and the other guitarist each play approx half of the other songs with harder bass line on bass). She also plays violin and just this week we recorded the midiclock take for one of our new songs where she plays violin solo over my wah solo - it sounds awesome, we'll record it in February! Anyway, she has a wider vocal range and more specific vocals, not the pop-like vocals of our previous singer.
I'm now 20 and the drummer (the only one that's been with me from the start), our new singer (well she's been with us for 5 months now) are 15, the other guitarist is 16. If all goes to plan, we'll have a record by the end of this year which will also include a couple of bilingual songs - available both in Slovene and in English, the other songs will be Slovene only. We've already recorded 2 songs, have already recorded midiclock takes as a preparation to another round of recording for another 4 of our songs which will be recorded in February (and one of the 2 already recorded songs will also get it's English counterpart, so our singer will be recording 5 songs total). Granted, I'm not exactly young, but not many have gotten a record out at 15/16.
I am meeting a club owner this week to discuss whether he'd take us as an opening band to one of the biggest ex-Yugoslavian bands that'll be headlining near our town in February.

Anyway, what I'm trying to say is - none of this wouldn't have happened if that other band got just enough serious for me to keep playing with them and not even try out the, then, 13 year-old drummer that was suggested to me. I had to quit the band and also be desperate enough to find a drummer to try out playing with someone as young. To this day I thank those ex-band-members for being as disorganized and for not being as serious as I was. If they had been, I guess we would have been together for another year and we'd dissolve then as 2 of us went to university and that "kid" would have found a different guitarist - there are very few drummers and bassists in our town, but finding a guitarist is as easy as going to the mall.

Who knows, maybe you'll find a different project that will suit you better and with which you'll really "make it" and when that happens - you'll be thankful for this band breaking up when it did :)
Keep your head high and don't turn down anything before trying it out - sometimes the least likely solutions will be the best ones.

Sorry to hear about the band breakup. I've discovered that trying to keep a band together as an adult (especially when it's not your livelihood) is just about the hardest thing in the world. Work and family commitments just keep getting in the way.

And given how well the Oilers have been playing lately (meaning, not very well at all), I'd say you're having a rough week.

Hope you can find some new band mates soon. As a frustrated musician and a Sabres fan, I feel for you!

Reminds me of that story about a fisherman seeking a woman who owned her own boat. Suggest you have her send you pictures of the gear first. 8)

I just told her what you said. Now she's considering posting pics of the gear on my Facebook as an added incentive for me.

Has she posted her picture yet?

Not yet. I'm pretty sure she was just joking but I'll keep you posted if it happens.

You will find another band as long as you keep that attitude. Plus, you might find a gig that takes you out of the your comfort zone so to speak. Something different and challenging.
I have quit a few bands due to boredom. And laziness.
Good luck.
