I'm reading this thread... on my phone.

Ah well, it's more interesting than whatever the judge is saying to me from across the courtroom. 8)

I am with you brother!!!!! My band played the heavy loudest Rock your face out songs at our 3 set 9 to 1 gig and I watched this kid look at his phone the whole time- all 3 sets. What an idiot. The place was hoppin' too- girls dancing going nuts etc etc.... shoulder to shoulder people-- what a delbert. I felt like smackin' him and telling him to get out of the numb nutz Universe and have some fun. But I didn't.

Good thing too - perhaps he did have fun. People have different ideas about that, and as long as the choice is theirs, surely it's all good.

It's not really anything new - the bones are new, but I remember people bringing other forms of self-entertainment, whether it was paperbacks, knitting, Rubik's cubes, whittling (yes, youngsters, there was a time when knives were socially acceptable), or the good old standby for keeping one's hands occupied: peanuts.

I carry a double edged swiss army knife with me everywhere. Has a Ford insignia engraved and filled with silver leaf.

I've thought about it and I think I'll build a model car at the next Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert. Naw just kidding. Have a great day! :D

When I saw the Chili's a few years ago, there was this kid in front of me, glued to his phone the whole show. He was dancing with one hand in the air, eyes on his phone.
He missed "seeing" and awesome show!

Apparently I'm not the only one that is bothered by this.

I have found consolation, though: I also play an acoustic show, and I found a nice venue to perform in where cell service doesn't work.

:D

I don't really mind people being glued to the phone with Superman welder eyes . The worst thing about it is when I'm driving and someone is impeding traffic or if they aren't paying attention to the road to the point of erratic acceleration and slowing . I went on a long trip and noticed this a few times -- once where some girl was texting and not paying attention to the road. I'd go to pass her and she would speed up and match my speed- then she'd slow down--- then after a bit she'd fly back by me and soon I'd catch up and the whole thing happened again. She was looking down at her phone. I saw it. At one point the cars around us all slowed down and she just came barreling up and had to hit her brakes really hard to keep from running into the car in front of her. This isn't the only time I've witnessed this out on the road. It's pretty regular.

Hi Ceri, good to see your post, there as a barrister or advocate or journalist?

Hey SBLS; I was the defendant. Apparently you're not supposed to be texting on your phone whilst landing an airliner. Well, I think that's what the arresting officer said - I wasn't really paying attention, as I was involved in a good game of Angry Birds as he was speaking.

Splendid! Ceri, I hope the fee wasn't egregious.

Landing an airliner whilst playing angry birds, now that's multi tasking in anyone's book, shades on, elbow out the cockpit window, and the wind in your hair, eh Ceri, you should have demanded as Captain he return to his seat and buckle up for his own safety....

ps amazes me what you can do on a phone these days, what next I ask myself

I saw a pic on Facebook the other that drove home the dangers of texting or talking on the phone while driving. The photo showed a Corvette wedged far in under a big flatbed truck. The police found a phone with a partially completed text message on the seat next to him and the driver's head out in the back behind the seat. They had obviously texting while driving on an urban neighbourhood street at an excessively high rate of speed.

As far as the original post goes, that's the first I've seen of a phone stand for musicians but the iKlip is a useful item. You clip it to your mic stand and it holds your iPad so you can use an app like OnSong to have the lyrics scroll down while you sing.

iKlip

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

The point is that phones aren't just used for phones and texting, but are taking over for computers.
I have quite a few music apps, including tuners, metronomes and control programs for several of my TC Electronic pedals. I also use it as a remote control for my DLNA-hosted music collection, including backing tracks.

That's cool.

But do you...you know...talk to people and stuff?

I can't tell you how many times I go out and all I see are just...people staring into phones. I go to family gatherings and it's....people staring into their phones.

KnowwhatI'msayin' here?

But the point of the stand is because people use their phones for the apps--so they either are doing signal processing or reading music, etc.

So really you have two threads here.
