This could be the point at which someone might ask what is the point, would someone ask what is the point when in fact they should ask what is the point is a horse of a different feather.

I have a cell phone , it's a simple flip phone .What do I do with it ? , make and receive calls , occasionally , that's it . It's out of my pocket only when I use it , some days it never gets used at all .
I have an Ipod , I use that a lot more than my cell phone , there are well over 1000 songs on it and some great play lists . When I practice playing drums , I have a drum groove play list that I play along with , sometimes I use the Ipod and jam along on the guitar.
One of those holder thingy's would be handy , let's say ,clamped to my hi-hat stand.

I agree ,the epidemic use of smart phones is pathetic and dangerous too , the number of idiots I see daily dicking around with phones while driving is frightening ! . A couple of years ago , a friend of mine was killed by a teenage girl that was texting while driving , she ran right over him on his motorcycle.

Where I work , better than half of the people working there are messing with personal cell phones constantly , You often cannot get their attention ,at all they are so "busy".

It's become utterly ridiculous.

Get with the times.

I wouldn't use a phone on stage, but some people may find an application for it.

Hell, I don't even use pedals.

Precisely! I'm glad somebody understands...

funny how all the people who are flying under the government's radar and keeping it simple, not addicted to technology .... are talking about it on an Internet forum.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

[quote="G_Strange"]This is a a stand for a mobile phone, so a musician can look into the mobile phone while performing:

Image

So....let's say someone goes out....

They basically see a performer who isn't engaged because they're too busy staring into a mobile phone playing music for an audience that isn't engaged because they're too busy staring into their mobile phones.

What is the point of the show?
Why do people bother going out?
So they can get a different atmophere or ambience while...they're staring into their phones?

I am with you brother!!!!! My band played the heavy loudest Rock your face out songs at our 3 set 9 to 1 gig and I watched this kid look at his phone the whole time- all 3 sets. What an idiot. The place was hoppin' too- girls dancing going nuts etc etc.... shoulder to shoulder people-- what a delbert. I felt like smackin' him and telling him to get out of the numb nutz Universe and have some fun. But I didn't.

Good thing too - perhaps he did have fun. People have different ideas about that, and as long as the choice is theirs, surely it's all good.

It's not really anything new - the bones are new, but I remember people bringing other forms of self-entertainment, whether it was paperbacks, knitting, Rubik's cubes, whittling (yes, youngsters, there was a time when knives were socially acceptable), or the good old standby for keeping one's hands occupied: peanuts.

You've got a point there! But don't worry, just grow your hair a little longer on top, and nobody will notice.

C'mon now- I'm talking Rock music in your face swetty hot jumpin buzzed honkin JAMMIN out. Nobody knits at a gig like that!!!! HA!!!! Maybe at an outdoor chamber music gig or whatnot (blue grass)up in there. Never did a gig with people reading or knitting. Even if someone is reading or knitting they aren't as transfixed as the numb nuts people. Dude they walk out in front of buses with those things!!

I've thought about it and I think I'll build a model car at the next Red Hot Chilli Peppers concert. Naw just kidding. Have a great day! :D

You haven't met my ex. She was knitting throughout a Judas Priest concert. It could have been crocheting - I'm not too strong on the technical details, but her fingers moved in the beat to "Judas is Rising".

I'm assuming that people use these as the hipster version of a music stand. Which is a whole other type of clownshoes I don't get. I suppose if you're a session musician this might come in handy. Maybe. I'd just ask for the charts.

I hear ya Strange G.
It's pathetic to see these zombies all mulling around with their heads down in their phones.
It's a depressing sight.
And as many times as it's been stated in this thread, +1 here too:
Put the phone away and be part of the scene and have some fun already!

I have an iPhone application which can generate audio sine waves and I support it with a stand/clip similar to that one when I play at my meditation gigs.
