This is a a stand for a mobile phone, so a musician can look into the mobile phone while performing:

Image

So....let's say someone goes out....

They basically see a performer who isn't engaged because they're too busy staring into a mobile phone playing music for an audience that isn't engaged because they're too busy staring into their mobile phones.

What is the point of the show?
Why do people bother going out?
So they can get a different atmophere or ambience while...they're staring into their phones?

Image

Maybe someone can explain how this is a better society that we're living in...

The point is that phones aren't just used for phones and texting, but are taking over for computers.
I have quite a few music apps, including tuners, metronomes and control programs for several of my TC Electronic pedals. I also use it as a remote control for my DLNA-hosted music collection, including backing tracks.

That's cool.

But do you...you know...talk to people and stuff?

I can't tell you how many times I go out and all I see are just...people staring into phones. I go to family gatherings and it's....people staring into their phones.

KnowwhatI'msayin' here?

I must be the only person my age that doesn't have a smartphone. I have a cheap, small phone that does what its supposed to do; text and make calls. That's all.
I don't see the point in focusing everything in our lifes into one thing. It's just so stupid and too easy.
Smartphones are evil.

On the phone? Almost never. I average less than five minutes a month, and still the darn phone company tried to upsell me to a bigger plan.

In person? Sure, it's expected.
In person for pleasure? That would be at the pub.
For serious talk, I prefer e-mail, as it leaves an audit trail and is searchable.

That family gatherings are on the way out? That's not necessarily a bad thing - it depends on the family, I guess, but there are some (thankfully somewhat distant) relatives I would rather have staring into a phone than opening their mouths. Mean drunks, religious nutjobs, snobs and hillbillies - most families have some incompatible individuals.

I feel y'all on the people have their noses in their smart phones way too much thing.

BUT... I have found that they're great to use the Notes app for song lyrics. That way you don't have to worry about losing the paper they're written on. And you can add and change them around as needed. And even jot some down while you're thinking about them and before you forget.

So say if you're playing guitar and singing a new song, that little stand thing might come in handy.

Not saying I'd buy it but I'm just sayin'...

You have two discussions going on here. You started out talking about an Ipod or smart phone holder and how it might affect a performance and then went into a discussion on overuse of smart phones in general.
To comment on the holder you pictured. Quite a few new pedals are controllable by Ipods or smart phones. I have a new Eventide H9 that I can download every algorithm that Eventide makes and tweak them with an Ipod or Iphone. That's what that holder is for. Not for checking email while on stage.
As far as overuse of smart phones, I dislike the trend but I believe it will only get worse. I was in a restaurant today where an idiot was standing in the middle of the restaurant doing a business deal at full volume so that he was disturbing every person in the restaurant and he was totally oblivious and ignorant of what an $@! he was. The more everyone gets connected 24/7, the more disregard there is for the real world around them.

Proud to say that I am one of the 4% of the World population that does not own a Cellphone !

They're just a Fad !

I have no trouble existing without one, nor would my life be enhanced with one.

I don't suffer from Nomophobia - the fear of losing one's cellphone.

The Gov't. can't track me (multilateration) or eavesdrop on me (Cell's microphones can be remotely activated and conversations nearby picked-up - and NO Search Warrant is required).

The Police cannot sieze and search my cellphone or cellphone records at will (no Search Warrant required).

I won't be involved in one-in-three robberies involving a cellphone.

My odds of getting Brain or Mouth cancer are less than cellphone users.

I'm not contributing to the mining of 'Conflict Minerals' where children in Africa are forced into underground mines to mine minerals necessary for cellphone manufacturers. :P

I don't have a new device I have to learn every 12-18 mos.

I don't have an exhorbitant bill every month contributing to the estimated $200 Billion/yr. in revenues to Providers.

That said, I have owned them in the past... when I was traveling and in the gen'l. workforce.

But for now I enjoy the simplified lifestyle not having to carry, charge, check and generally keep track of a cellphone. My 90 y.o. Mother has one... I don't !!

Due to the extended travel imposed on the people in Mrs. LMN's company, her company will even furnish a cellphone (smartphones w/ unlimited talk & text) to their employees spouses without charge, but I refused.

I'm sure the day will come when it becomes impossible to exist without one.

I am NOT looking forward to that day !

cheers!
