And it's awesome to hear from all of you too! I definitely miss coming here, I've got to make some more time for it.

I'm hopefully going to get some YouTube videos going soon. It's been way, way too long. (Like a year and half?) I'm thinking about bowing out of playing live 1-2 nights a week to spend more time on stuff like that, and just practicing more. The jazz stuff is really kicking my butt, but the good thing is that the other guitar player in the jazz band is almost as bad as I am! Neither of us can sight read worth a flip.

And that's cool that I'm not the only Doctor Who fan here! I really wish that I had seen it sooner. But alas, there is a distinct lack of BBC programing available on non-cable TV in Texas. Unless you're talking PBS at 3:00am Saturday morning, which was actually how I saw my first Doctor Who episode. And Netflix wasn't even something that existed back when I was like 15 or 16 anyway. But hey, better late than never!

Anyway, I've got to get back to tabbing out my jazz music. The band director didn't say anything about not tabbing it! And I have some software so that I can hear what the music sounds like since these are all super obscure songs that I can't find anywhere online.

Becks--
I was wondering what your impressions of the amp you had made for you (the guy in Austin who makes the lighter-weight amps?)

Can you make a (sonic) comparison to another amp? Is it Fenderish? Marshallish? Voxish?

Very curious...

Hey Becks, to become a fully fledged Dr Who fan you'll need a few things
1 A plumbers plunger
2 An egg whisk or Bicycle pump
3 A Colander
all of which was considered (in our household at least) as standard Dalek weapons of choice, then you have to walk about saying " I am a Dalek " for like 2 or 3 hours, use one of those nostril pinching thingumybobs that swimmers wear they work perfectly, didn't have them in our day, give us a shout when you get to the Cybermen.

The Grammatico has been really awesome so far! I actually don't take it to every gig yet because number one, I haven't gotten it a road case yet and the second and sillier reason, it smells like fresh pine and the places where I play... Well, let's just say they don't! I'd say it's definitely more Fender-y than anything else. It's not voiced like a British amp, although cranked it can get a tab bit Bluesbreakerish. The best comparison that I could give would be to imagine an amp that had the fullness and body of a Bassman, with the sparkly clarity of a Super Reverb. It's like a half and half hybrid. It also sounds best with no pedals, although I have run it together with my Fender Deluxe VM with the reverb in the Deluxe on and that really sounded fantastic.

Hmm, I haven't quite taken to running around yelling "EXTERMINATE!" yet! But to amuse myself in class sometimes when my math teacher uses a word such as "clear" or "subtract", I write them down as "EXTERMINATE" in my notes. "EXTERMINATE all fractions" etc. I think it's hilarious, but I just hope that none of my classmates ever need to look at my notes! Well that, I totally have a 4th Doctor scarf...

Very cool--I'm very intrigued by those amps; every review I've read has been very complimentary...plus, they're made in Austin, so... 8)

Glad you're doing well. I was at a jam the other night and
one of the players was using a Rook Overdrive. Pretty impressive sounds too.

About time for another update, I have some really exciting news to share too! Sorry I dropped off the face of the Earth again, I had a pretty crazy spring break (in a babysitting my 2 and 7 year old cousins type of way - not exactly the typical college stereotype, I know) and the amount of work I have to do for school doesn't leave much time for anything else.

First, the boring stuff. I actually finished one of my classes (class piano) in what is apparently record time! I took the final just after spring break, and I'm seriously enjoying having two more afternoons per week free! I think I got something like a score of 98 on it, but it was all stuff that I learned when I was nine years old so the real test will be next semester. The jazz music is finally coming together for me, but it's still incredibly difficult. Lets just say that it's not nearly as closely related to blues as I imagined, or as close as the jazz I tend to listen to is. We actually are playing a show in Dallas mid-April. Not sure if it's open to the public, but if it is I'll let you know!

And now the not-boring stuff! I was going to push through more school this summer, but the lack of time for focusing on my own music is driving me a little crazy. So what I'm going to do is take summer off, write some songs, rehearse them with the best musicians I can find, set up some studio time and record another EP! :D I'm also going to get out and play live as much as I can and record those YouTube videos. I had gotten up the nerve to sing on a couple of songs live over the last year or so, so this time I might actually try to sing and not make everything instrumental. We'll just have to see what happens. :)

I see your random "howdy", and raise you a calculated "hey". Hope you're doing well.

Time does seem to be compressed i will definitely concur...
Spring break was spent working on the S4, so it's good ....

Good luck with your work too! I'm in my final remedial math semester before college algebra. We were supposed to have a test tomorrow, but since the professor cancelled last class I really hope we spend tomorrow covering the last bits before the exam so that I can catch up on the homework I need to do!
