Hi Everyone,

I Think this is a 1971 Pro Reverb Amp - just wondering if anyone can confirm. I've researched all day, it's likely between 1968-1972. I LOVE the sound, clean and sweet!

Correct me if I'm wrong, but didn't the earliest of these silverfaces have the drip edge around the speaker cloth?

Arjay, we need you!!

I need more to work with for a definitive date but that amp is most assuredly a post-1970 edition. Based on the grill-cloth color, I'm going to hazard a "WAG" that it pre-dates 1974. Thus, a '71 to '73 example.

The EIA codes on the trannies, pots, and speakers would reveal all.

A10500 to A12000 - 1968
A12000 to A13300 - 1969
A13400 to A14500 - 1970
A14500 to A15000 - 1971
A15000 to A15600 - 1972
A15600 to A17200 - 1973
A17200 to A19700 - 1974

Hey Guys,

The serial code is A 15379 - which puts it a a 1972. However, when i look online at the pics of a 1972 - almost all have a master volume knob, which mine doesn't. Maybe it's the limited pics online of 1972 amps that's the problem!

One more question, do you recommend a cap job? The capacitors seem to be ok, but i know looks can be deceiving. It crackles very slightly when i first turn it on, sometimes, but not always.

Thanks again - you guys rock!

If I am not mistaken, the Twin Reverb went to a master volume during 73. As for the Cap job, if they are original it is way past time for that cap job, in fact might want to have a tech go over all the electronics, the amp looks like it has seen some serious use.

It wasn't until the debut of the ultra-linear 70-watt Pro Reverb in '77 that the amp acquired a MV control (same deal with the Super Reverb and Bandmaster Reverb). Chassis alterations also included changing the rectifier from a 5U4GB tube to a solid-state diode stack.

Your amp is a '72 -- just as I originally surmised.

Awe Crap...I looked up the Twin Reverb, not the Pro Reverb! Guess I should not have had those last couple of beers last night!

Arjay is correct. Additionally, the Pro Reverb did go to 45 watts in 72, due to the change from a GZ34 to the 5U4GB as the rectifier.

Your Amp has been modded.

The Master Volume Control was a somewhat common Mod job to the early silverface Pro's, you see that quite often.

cheers!
