Exciting news, all:

The latest addition to the Stratocaster family, the Fender Fishman® TriplePlay Stratocaster HSS guitar, combines state-of-the-art digital technology with fine Fender craftsmanship. The result is a killer new instrument that allows you to emulate a wide variety of sounds with the sturdy construction and legendary tone of a great Fender guitar.

Sure, it has all the makings of a solid Fender instrument: Vintage Noiseless™ single-coil neck and middle pickups and a super-hot, high-sustain Seymour Duncan® Pearly Gates humbucking bridge pickup, plus a slim "C" neck profile with a rosewood fingerboard and modern 9.25" fingerboard radius. But you can also activate the guitar's intuitive Fishman® TriplePlay system to transmit MIDI data to your computer and create an unlimited amount of new tones. There's also a mini-USB output on the lower bout of the guitar to transmit audio signals direct from your guitar pickups to the computer.

Best of all, the software you'll need for recording, editing and playback—Fishman® TriplePlay, IK Multimedia SampleTank 2.5 and AmpliTube Custom Shop, and Native Instruments Komplete Elements—is all available on an included USB flash drive.

Visit the TriplePlay Strat HSS page for more details. Thanks all!

Is that accompanying software available for both MACs and PCs?

Pros: a wide sonic palette in your fingertips, almost endless tonal possibilities! :P

Cons: rosewood fingerboard only, limited choice of colours. :(

My main worry is that it isn't future-proof. With only some parts and not everything being open standards, there's no telling whether there will be supporting software for the computers of the future or not. Based on history, I'd bet on "not". I have boxes full of floppies and DOS music software that the manufacturer abandoned. Or which relies on archaic interfaces like serial port dongles or DAT drives. Some of it was really nice back then, but is useless now. It doesn't even have to be that old. Firewire interfaces, anyone?
Also, unless Fender has changed the Fishman system, it uses proprietary Li-Ion batteries that have a limited life span.
If people want and can use the features today, great, but I fear that this is going to be a guitar on which the main selling point no longer works a few years from now.

I'd say if it's done by ik multimedia and connects to Amplitube software, there's nothing to worry about. Amplitube is currently a very popular iOS app however not on android- probably for obvious android bug related reasons..

Fender has partnered with IK multimedia and this ain't the first venture they've collaborated on. Considering the vast array of software for musicians that they produce (like Amplitube for example) they are making a big name for themselves in the music industry, connecting musical instruments to smart devices and enabling them to be used as credible recording & practice tools. I use them, and it's the best piece of gear I've bought for less than $50. I urge anyone to try them out..

But nothing is ever future proof. Nothing. With the mind boggling rate that technology has advanced.. Even within the last 5 years.. if a company says its products are future proof- they aren't. But I'd say this Strat and the companies that back the software will be a safe bet.

Does anyone know if this guitar is made in the US? Or Mexico? I saw that it's available for pre-order for around $1400 street.

It is tempting in some ways-but I'm not sure the expense is justified for what i'd be using it for--but for someone who is playing professionally, or who aspires to and is taking a serious shot at it--the expense probably is, given the different things it can do.

I affixed the FTP onto my Fender Showmaster... I have to admit that this looks better!

I'm glad to see Fender making this move... I can't wait to play one!

Rather the opposite, I'd say. It's very zeitgeiist, and sacrifices the future on the altar of now.

How many of these guitars with proprietary short-life batteries and Chinese electronics will be seen on stage 20 years down the road?
And how many of the standard strats?
Now tell me which one is futuristic and which one attempts to cash in on catching the moment.

I think that's the same thing they said when they introduced the Roland ready Strat... those are still around, and so is the Roland MIDI system.

The FTP makes this available to more guitarists.
