He doesn't know what he's talking about. Probably heard it from some friend so it must be true.

Just because Gibson owns Epiphone does not mean there instruments
are cheap and the Gibsons are the good ones. Let me see Fender
owns Gretch,Charvel, Guild, Jackson and Squier. Think about it that
way.

My Epi Dot went flat on it's face the other weekend not from a stand on the floor but from the stand as pictured here; from my practice bench; a electric piano bench, I think you can gauge the distance form the floor. It fell onto an area rug; there's no padding under the rug just hardwood flooring.
Long story short: It Continues to play just fine; nothing broken or loose. Epiphone are a great guitar; well made and they perform just fine.
I'm sure they have rejects that get through Quality Control just like Gibson or Ford.
Did you read the post about the "Static" noise in the '52 re-issue Telecaster just a couple of weeks ago? major axe; major bucks, and major problem all from a Fender.
Just because Fender had a problem doesn't mean I'm going to give up my collection. How Fender handles this problem is important to all of us but I'm sure no one is dumping thier Fenders because of an isolated issue.
So until someone comes up with DIRECT KNOWLEDGE of a REPEATED problem with Epis can we please stop with the Epiphone bashing?

Great point. Has anyone calling them cheap any knowledge of Epi inferiority that us Epi owners apparently don't know about? Or is this just "my friend says they suck so I say they suck?"

This is the internet! If enough people say it, it must be true, no?

The quality of Epi has significantly increased over the years.
Even with the move from South Korea to China.
I'd love to get a Epi Slash Les Paul, but the asking price is too much higher than the other Epi Les Pauls for me.

I remember when I was a kid, just playing for a couple years, me and my buddy's used to bash single coil pups. Nothing was better then a humbucker. We'd pat ourselves on the back for our outstanding knowledge of guitars. Single coils sucked and those who thought otherwise were simply idiots. Damn we were so sure of our superiority! I actually believed a Les Paul was a far more versitile instrument then a mere Stratocaster! Silly young me! The funny thing is that now, 35 years later, all of us still playing are playing Strats!

Yeah, about that same time, we all felt we had to put Brass hardware on our guitars and swap out for hotter pickups.

The "snake oil" salesmen are still thriving.

If you want an Epi, get an older one; they are better made. I have a 1996 Epi Les Paul made in Korea...solid as can be, weight close to 9 lbs, incredible sustain. I put in a Gibby 57 Classic in the neck, and a 57 Classic Plus in the brideg, and it sounds incredible. I paid $330 (shipping included) on ebay 4 years ago and it came in an older Gibby TKL hard shell case.

I wouldn't call a 1996 model year anything "OLDER" I'm a 1956 model year now that's OLDER.
Epi has been making instruments since the mid 1800s; now you get some thing from the 70s or before that could be OLDER but that's just because I'm OLDER.

Over a year ago,my wife had bought me a Epiphone G400 ( SG),which was Chinese made. This had to be one of the worst guitars I had ever played. The so called Grover tuners on it,would not stay in tune, the pups sounded muddy, and the intonation was way off when I got it.I ended up seklling it on E-bay.Never again.I'm a Fender guy, always have and always will be.

Did you check with Epiphone to see if the example you have is counterfit?

Hey secretsounds or First Measure, thank you for your info on Epi Sgs.

'Did not know the top end Epi SGs were that good (including ebony board). Is a full-lyre vibrola available on them and do they do a really great clean tone?

well honestly, yes they are probably cheap but for the price you pay, you can't expect much better....

Entry Level Epi's are not as good as MIM Fender, but if you get an Ultra or Elitist, they're on Par. That's the thing with Epiphone, they make Cheap Guitars and Quality Guitars. A $150 Epi won't compare to any Fender, but a $500 Epi will.
