"I smell a Class Action law suit brewing."

If it happened, my bet is Gibson didn't plan on it, just like Purina didn't count on whatever was in the pet food, and Mattel didn't count on the lead. The contract supplier in mainland China supplies substandard materials and pockets the difference, when these things happen. With Fenders, you get what you pay for because it's U.S. or MIM with a lot of close U.S. input. The low-end Squiers from China don't make many promises about what wood you've got, from what I've seen.

Not all Fenders are made in the U.S. and Mexico. Some are made in
in Japan mainly for oversea sale and there is a sweet Telecaster that
you can buy that comes from Korea and that thing is nice. Also they
do not just have Squier there is also Gretsch, Jackson, Charvel, Guild, Tacoma all guitar companies and they are not all U.S. and MIM and
all make some of the best instruments you can get.

ok, i didnt want to read over 10 pages of this so i'll just say what i want to say. i have an epiphone dr-100 acoustic and i would like a better one ut for the money ($120) i like it. two guys in my band have epiphone sg's.
one a g-400 and the other a g-400 fadded. i've played both of them and i absolutly love them.

also, i would compare epiphones like the lp-100 and g-310 to squier strats but i would compare sg-400's and lp standards to mim fenders.

I doubt that , hearing something from someone who was at
a shop and knows the owner would not go far . What they
call that is hear say.

Well of course you couldn't base it on just that. On the other hand. if Epi is advertising mahogany necks and using a cheaper/weaker material, then there's the possibility of something legal happening.
I agree with you there cryingstrat but this rumor apears to come from another forum
and I just don't think that well respected companies such as Fender and Gibson would subject themself to such or allow their offshoot companies
to do so.

I know I've literally beaten this horse into the ground...but what really, really suprised me about this topic...

Someone was calling Epiphone on this ON THEIR OWN FORUMS....and there never was an official reply for the 2 days I monitored that thread before leaving town for a few days.

Sometimes silence is much more damning than all the explanations in the world.

Not to defend Epiphone or Gibson more than I'll defend any other company, but the moderators are rarely involved in any discussions on the forum. The most they'll do is post an apology for downtime, or explain a problem.

Fender's staff is much more involved.

That being said, whoever it was's analogy between Fender and Epiphone is just about perfect. The lower-end models, the Les Paul Junior, Special, LP-100, and G-310, are very similar to the "standard" Squiers.

The Master Series and other higher-end Squiers are about equivalent to the mid-range Epiphones - the Les Paul Studio, Dot Studio, G-400 Faded, etc.

I have no problem comparing my Casino, or any of the other top-shelf Epiphones to the various level of MIM Fenders, and they're priced very closely.

The Elitist, from Japan, though, I wouldn't hesitate to compare to American Fenders.

your comparison system is better thatn mine. but for some reason a lot of people will register epiphone with begginer and cheeply made instruments. i would compare the elitist series to more like the highway one fenders, thats the same level for me as a gibson les paul studio.

Well folks. I read somewhere that agathis is African mahogany Correct me if I`m wrong. I love my Epi Les Paul With all Gibson pots and 57 Classic Pickup upgrades. I also have a stock Emperor II. I personally don`t need a better guitar. My MIM Strat is also great. Why all the talk if your happy with what you have. I`ve adjusted the truss rod on all my guitars, with no problems. Nothing broke off, and I don`t expect it to. Of course I don`t knock them up against anything. The most expensive guitars will break, if dropped on the headstok, no matter what they`re made from. Ask me how I know.
