Hi all,

Check out these striking new additions to the Fender Select series. These two new Stratocaster® guitars are as eye-catching as they are great- sounding, with beautiful flame and quilt maple fingerboards and a bounty of other cool features, including a stunning rosewood neck version. Among the specs? A super-comfortable channel-bound fingerboard with a modern compound radius (9.5"-14") for ultra-playability.

Take a look at the Fender Select Stratocaster HSS Exotic Maple Flame and Stratocaster Exotic Maple Flame Quilt and let us know what you think.

Thanks everyone!

The dark neck is just stunning - I love it!

However, I can't think of a worse match for it than the red flame maple. Any other guitar would be a better colour match, in my humble opinion.

Beautiful Stratocasters! The HSS is a knock out though, love the dark color of the neck.

The Select series lacks off a Floyded version of those humbucker-equipped beasts. :x

Will that neck be available on the SSS version or just the HSS?

As far as I can tell, only the HSS.

And personally, I think HSS strats suffer from a bad design, in that if you use the humbucker, you only have one working tone control. I know it'd be unlike other strats, but in this case it would make more sense to have one tone dial for the humbucker and the other for the singles. I'm no fan of separate tone controls, but when the pickups are very different, it can serve a good purpose. But it's not possible on a HSS strat, despite it having two tone dials.

Unless you rewire the guitar with master volume and tone (or master volume, tone and active mid boost) affecting all the pickups.

Hi guys: I totally get that we might want a dedicated tone control for the humbucker on an HSS. And for that it's perfectly easy to adjust the wiring so the first tone knob does neck+middle and the second one just controls the bridge pickup.

Here's the service diagram:

http://support.fender.com/service_diagr ... A_SISD.pdf

To achieve the above, we just need to move the second tone pot over to the humbucker's lug on the selector switch (third from left, instead of second from left where it's currently hooked up) and move that tiny jumper wire to join lugs one+two, instead of two+three as presently configured.

Quick and easy. Strats are great that way. :)

Cheers - C

Now that's a very good solution, which makes a lot of sense on a HSS. It should make things like tracking with a fuzz far more viable too! :)

Odd thing, I've owned an HSS Strat since 2005 and I've never thought of doing this mod till today. I can't think why not: it makes perfect sense.

Where's my soldering iron...? :)

I like very much your idea for a Select Exotic Jazz Bass with a channel-bound tuxedo fingerboard and active electronics; it would look much better backrouted without a pickguard and chrome control plate.

Personally, I think pick guards on bass guitars are mostly unnecessary. I can understand it with strat type models where you can change all the pickups and knobs in one go, but otherwise, bass players who use picks in a way that requires a guard are rather rare.
And wood is purdy. Especially on Selects. So I second your request.

I wouldn't mind Select baritone guitars either, but the market is possibly too limited for that.
