Does anyone have any experience with the Gibson Min-Etune? I am geting closer and closer to purchasing a Gibson LP and I am wondering if the add on is worth it?
I'm kind of in a keep it classic vs go modern, dilemma.
Once in the desired tuning, will it maintain your tuning as you play or do you have to initiate each tuning?

It looks to be removable so I wouldn't worry about not liking it, I'm sure you could remove and sell it on if so. Looks quite nifty to me, but to be honest although I am lazy, I don't mind fiddling with my pegs every now and then.

I guess it's good for having different tunings at the touch of a button, but I don't need that. And if your guitar goes out of of tune during a song, somethings not right with the guitar itself.

You have to initiate each tuning.
You also have to strum the strings while it tunes, and it is acoustic, not electric. So just like headstock tuners that don't twist the pegs, it won't work too well if the environment is too noisy.

You can buy the tuner separately from the people who actually make it, but it's cheaper to buy it with the guitar, with the Gibson "Min-E Tune" re-branding.

Note that you can get the tuner for Fender and other guitars too. Gibson is just the only one who bundles/rebrands it.

Thanks guys. It seems like a neat idea. Similar to the robot guitar, but with less things to go wrong! I'm not sure if I want to go this route or not. I only play in standard and a half step down tuning. I might want to start messing with open G and I know one song in open E, so its not like I need to jump from tuning to tuning on a regular basis.

It has several tunings selectable with a single button push, and you can create one tuning of your own and store it as a special if need be.

I think it's the future, but to be perfect, electric guitars should be designed with wires from the pickups up through the neck so a headstock tuner can get the signal, not just the acoustics. That would also allow for adding headstock radio transmitters.
I wish Fender would put more money into things like that instead of how to best replicate the crackled finish and rust of 50 year old guitars.

I would love to install that on my Telecaster...with the various alternate tunings I like to use, it would be awesome to only have to carry one guitar to a gig (usually have at least 2, sometimes three)...
