I need advice on which electric guitar I should get. I'm not under any budget; I'd rather have a slightly more expensive durable, usable guitar rather than a cheaper one which would stop working in a few years.

I've just been playing a couple months. It'd be great if I could use some help on deciding.

Thanks

What do you play, or want to play?
Rhythm, lead, solo?
Songs or instrumental?
And what musical genre(s)?

The one that fits best. A Squier Vintage Modified or Classic Vibe would be a great first electric. You should find a reputable music store in your area and play a few. Necks come in various lengths, start with a 24" scale if you have a shorter reach.

A proper set up will make you a happy camper. Buying online can be iffy for a new player. You don't save any money if you have to pay someone to do a set up.

Squire guitars are used for gigging, not just as first guitars.

Good luck! :D

The Classic Vibe guitars are a lot of instrument for the money -- and the price is very reasonable.

If you're not under any budget, you should maybe check out the Fender American Standard series Strats, and Tele's. Nicer guitars do help for a beginner's enthusiasm.

Since there is no finacial restraints I would just get a American Standard.

It was stated that money wasn't a concern, so get something you'll actually like. The more you like something, the more you'll play it.
But base the choice on what you're going to play too.

You say that as if they won't actually like it, I own a CV 60's Strat and actual Fenders, and find myself playing that CV more often than not.

That being said I'm all for them trying a load out and seeing what you like best, but give the squier a try, like has been said before, a lot of guitar for the money.

The point of a beginner instrument is to learn the ropes.

Setting up, maintenance, modding, and even an instrument that's durable enough to bang around. (poly finishes especially, most are made with depleted uranium like modern tanks)

Anyways, would you give a player right out of the gate (a few months into playing) a suped up guitar, or would you give them a nice guitar that fits their needs, gets the job done, and isn't going to set them back more than $500 in case they decide to switch instruments or quit?

Yes, there are no budget constraints, but that doesn't mean that American made is the best option, mainly due to pricepoint, and the issue of many quitting early on. I'm not saying he/she will, but I think it would be a crime for any guitar, especially one that's $1000+ to sit under a bed or in a closet.

Squier is an excellent brand, btw.

If you got off your high horse every once in a while and started playing guitar more often, you'd see that.

Get a MiM Tele. It's worth the extra money.

I think you missed the point completely. I'm not recommending against Squier, but not for it either. My recommendation is to define what he/she is going to play and practice, and find which guitars best fit that category. That may or may not include Squier.

I just think it's wrong to recommend Squier because it's affordable when it was clearly stated that price was not a concern. If it can be recommended for other reasons over other guitars, good.

I think the OP should get a guitar he or she will be happy with, and I won't presume to say what that would be. Knowing what the OP is going to play would be useful before tossing off suggestions.

It isn't necessary to plunk down $1K to be able to enjoy it.

Go to some music stores, try out some guitars and find one YOU LIKE TO PLAY. You don't have to rush a decision, but you do need one YOU ENJOY playing. Try to find the one, or ones you don't want to put down and then start plugging into amps.
