Saw an ad on Craigslist for a Duncan Hot Rail and a Duncan Custom Custom for $45. Sent an email, didn't hear from him for a couple weeks.

He calls me today, asks if I'm still interested. I said "sure man, that's a good deal." I could care less about the Hot Rail, I really just wanted the Custom Custom because it was white. I needed a white hum for a HSS Strat I'm modifying, and none of the guitar stores here sell anything white. $45 for both pickups? I'm down.

I buy the pickups in a hurry, gotta get home, pickup looks new, Box Says Custom Custom, cool. I get it home, look at the back and it says "PGP1B". That doesn't look like it would be a Custom Custom model number. "What the Heck is this?"

Turns out its a Pearly Gates Plus bridge pickup. "SWEET!!! EVEN BETTER!"

What kind of weird twist of fate is that? I'd bought a Lone Star Pickguard months ago for it, then oddly end up with a Lone Star pickup by accident.

Any Lone Star players on here? What are your thoughts on the Pearly Gates Plus?

Well, Arjay, they are hot pickups...

I have tried a guitar with the plusses, but I don't really remember. Rather treble-heavy, I think, but that could of course be the mounting.

I think it's a possibility that someone swapped the Plus with a Custom Custom and sold the Plus to the kid in the CC box. He looked to be about 17, lived in an upscale gated community. Nice Kid, didn't look like he'd stolen a thing in his life. He just said he didn't like either pickup.

If the pickup has too much treble, I'll do a magnet swap. Word is, this is the same as a regular pearly gates, only difference being an A5 instead of an A2. That's what I'm reading on the net anyway. And I do remember liking the regular one. I'm anxious to hear it.

I own several guitars with Pearly Gates pickups in the bridge, some customized and some that came with the pickup already installed - even a Fender! I like the pickup a LOT! I don't play too often with overdrive, but when I do it's usually through a Pearly Gates.

I think you lucked out in a good way!
