I was going to put new strings on my 1st electric today but the wiring was shot. So I got a basic 1 pick up 1 vol wiring diagram and rewired the guitar. It was actually the fist time I use a soldering iron but the diagram was easy enough to follow so I managed to get it done. Just got to restring it now.
I also swapped the neck with a busted up crate guitar that had a really nice thin neck on it.

Hell yes.

My advice: Put a Dimarzio SDS-1, you will not be disappointed.

Nah, keep it beat, just go get some black plastic sheeting (from wherever), cut into little rectangles, and bolt in place over the pickup routes. Remember, this guitar ain't supposed to be pretty. I did a similar thing and loved the results. (sold the guitar for my Guild, however)

hope that helps. Fabricating small parts is fun as hell, I literally can't put my tools down for days sometimes.

If you want a really crazy project, strip that $@!&*, fill her routes with some spare wood, sand smooth/flush, paint, and fully convert to a hardtail.

I'd do a S/H (SDS-1/Super Distortion, both bridges) with one volume, one tone, 3 way switching, a tap switch, and a red button spring loaded kill switch.
