What do you use? a special kind of pliers like i see on some video's or something you like to use of your own because it's more convenient?

How about pulling them do you heat the fretwire with a soldering iron to aid the removal i saw a guy using that technique and he said it's a good thing to do.

So i'm thinking of doing this (refretting i mean) to an Epiphone ES 175 that the frets are worn to hell. I've never done it before but before i attempt it i'll do a lot of watching tutorials and stuff.

So pull the old frets level the board to get it completely flat. Clean the gunge out of the fret slots and hammer in new one's. Then file them flat and level and profile them.
is that roughly the order i do it in?

What about tools? I read a guy say that he pulled old frets out with a set of nail clippers? Do they actually work for that?

So you need a few files as well, what kinds are best? Can you just go with standard hand files like you get in your local DIY?

Anyway i'm not too bothered if i screw it up a bit as it's a pretty cheap guitar and i have to learn how to do this as i'm fed up of paying for fretwork and being overcharged.

Happy new year! 8)

hi Gary how you getting on mate ? i use a pair of ground end cutters to pull out the frets with a bit of heat from a soldering iron , it usually takes about 25 to 45 mins to get them all out , you can give the fretboard a dress , (if it's maple you'll need to refinish) or just proced to clean the fret slots with a knife file , then instll the new frets , cut the ends flush , then a fret level and then recrown and file the ends flush and then round them , it takes a bit of time but well worth i , i've pm'd you mate , cheers
Alan
