I just bought a new PRS and absolutely love it.

I already own a MIM Strat and have been extremely happy with it. However, I've been looking to add a second guitar for a while now and I finally made the move. I was originally considering a 72 Thinline Tele or a Les Paul Jr. But after playing the PRS SE Semi-Hollow it was a no-brainer. In my hands, I couldn't beat the playability and light weight of the PRS. I will miss the twangy notes that I can only get with the Tele, but I really don't think this PRS will lack anything compared to the Gibson. Anyway, sorry if this comes across as bragging or gloating ... I'm just a proud new papa.

Anyone else have experience with this PRS?

The only thing I know about PRS is every time I pick one up, I like it.
That bothers me because I'm not sure why they feel so good. Is the neck carve something special? I played a 245 at GC a couple of weeks ago and I'm planning on going back to try to figure out what it is I like so much. But I'm not in a hurry, because I can't buy another guitar right now.
Congratulations on yours!

Hi LouisvilleNoob. I haven't played a PRS SE Semi-Hollow but I used to own a PRS SE Custom 24 and absolutely loved the neck. If only it were possible to transplant that neck onto a Strat body. :D

    Enjoy your new baby!

    Cheers!

I tried to post a pic earlier but couldn't. This is the one:

http://www.prsguitars.com/secustomsh/

To the previous poster, I can't put my finger on the playability either. It's not smaller than my Strat, but i don't feel like I have to stretch as much as I do on other guitars. It also doesn't feel like it fights me as much on string bends if that makes sense. Anyway, thanks for the well-wishes. I'm still a fender guy, but variety is always a good thing.

Definitely no shame in owning a guitar as nice as that!

I love my PRS SE - as others have noticed, the neck is very easy to play on.
It is not my favourite axe, though - it's a goto for simple stuff. Rock. Monophonic solos. Easy bends. Low action without fret buzz. But it doesn't do well some of the stuff I love my Tele and SG for, including high sustain drones, pinch harmonics or glissando. And my PRS "Paul Allender" SE has pickups that are too compressed for prog stuff. And it doesn't stay in tune well. Blocking the trem helps, but I can still never play for more than a song without some fine ear adjustments.

I still think everyone should have a PRS, and I think it would make an excellent first guitar. Because, yes, it's easy to play.
And they do look nice too :D

The PRS 305 is one of the finest guitars I've played! Made here in Md.too.

I had a PRS Custom 22 QMT with birds. It wasn't a ten top but that would not have mattered with my issue. Like others have noted, the neck was an absolute dream but the guitar and I never bonded. It seemed soulless to me, almost like your typical wanker guitar but with a sexier look and nice wood. I think it's possible the rotary five way selector also contributed in a small way to my disappointment. It was clumsy and not very user-friendly. We just were not a good fit for each other and for $3,600 I figured it should have become my number one and it never came close. I found I just wasn't playing it and because of that I couldn't justify keeping it and made a deal for another high end Strat and an amp. In fact I think my ill-fated BJ may have been part of that deal.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.
