I got a Shure SM58 for christmas, and I was wondering what the cheapest thing I could plug it into would be? Both practice and performing.
Cheap because I'm not looking for 'top quality' sound.
I have no idea where to start. PA's are waaay to big, and not to mention a bit pricey.
So yeah.

And just for the sake of it, check out this song my vocalist and I made up this arfternoon. The reason I say made up is causer it was quite litterally made up on the spot.

if your not going to use a PA or any device with an XLR input you will need to get a low to high inpeadeance transformer in order to get any volume out of it if you are going to plug it into a guitar amp

Something like this through anything that accepts a 1/4" input:

Look at a Fender Passport MINI. It's a 7 watt PA that runs on AC or batteries, has USB interface capability for recording and has useful built in effects. Lists about $200 and street is about $150. Probably worth a look if you are looking for an entry level low power PA that you can also use as a recording tool or to busk with.

Thanks SA!

I use one of those through a Boss PS-6 sometimes and the
harmonies can be very decent for practice.

It doesn't look like the Fender provides phantom power, though?

Don't really have a suggestion for the mic, but great tune!

Correct me if I'm wrong (as I know you will, Arth :P ), but I don't think you want/need phantom power with a SM58...which is what Riley has.

BTW, Riley--I don't know if this is what you're going for, but the first part of that tune was reminiscent of some early Black Sabbath...I mean that as a compliment, too.

You are 100% correct - I thought it was a condenser mic, but it is a dynamic. No 48V needed.
