That just gave me an idea for a guitar finish. You know that have the swirl finish, why not be creative with a blow torch? :P

An unfortunately absent Ninja has already done such a thing--Ceri, are you out there?

Maybe it's just time for Fender to reintroduce a line of Super Strats again.

They did the Stagemasters/Showmasters for nearly 11 years and discontinued those series for good reason.

That's interesting. I must have missed out in this story. When was this?

To bring this thread back on topic:
I've had opportunity to play a couple of Lead II guitars, and to me, they weren't bad instruments. Nice little axes that I would liken to a late 60's Mustang or Musicmaster, in terms of feel and finish. I wouldn't seek one out to purchase or play, but if one fell in my lap really cheap or free, I wouldn't turn my nose up at it...in the two that I have played, the pickups seemed to be the worst part of the entire equation (hence the rarity if an untouched/unmodified original)...

I could (potentially) see them as Pawn Shop reissues/reimaginings...I don't know how popular they would be,
(1) considering that they're not as warmly beloved/remembered as some of the other guitars (Mustang, '51, Bass VI, Strat/Tele hybrids, Jaguar hybrids) Fender has designed for this line; most of the Pawn Shop series are seemingly based on something we have seen, either because a player modified his/her original guitar or some offshore manufacturer's version of Fenders of that era.

and...

(2) the fact that the originals are so obscure and unknown, meaning that many/most people won't see it and say, "Hey, that's kinda like that old Fender Lead guitar my dad played back in the 80's!"

While they do have their fans when I bought my Mustang I could have bought a used Lead I or II instead.

i chose the Mustang, but there are those who would have chosen otherwise.
