That is true art. I happen to like crafted fret markers. Two of my Ibanez's have really nice one-of-a-kind abalone inlays. I say one-of-a-kind because each one is unique with different color patterns in each.

This is a bit of my Artcore.

That's really nice. Nothing wrong with a little flair and beauty, as long as it is tasteful and not tacky.
This is definitely tasteful.

While I do some woodworking myself, I don't feel confident with Abalone and inlays, so I'll leave that to the luthiers. But I really want some new inlays on a couple of mine. We'll see.

EXACTLY... !!!

Since when did a guitar become more than a tool for producing Tone... ???

A Fashion Statement... ???

They're just tools... Really... !!

It doesn't matter if they're Blingy & Bright... or dull & non-descript...

It's NOT the Wand, but the Magician.. !!

You can be playing the purtiesst Git on stage, but if it doesn't sound good in the hands of the player, what's the point...???

You aren't foolin' anyone... (Anyone that matters that is...)

cheers!

To be fair I've never said I wanted it due to any of those reasons, I have totally legitimate reasons for wanting a new Strat.

I fully agree with your post however.

Aw, c'mon man! Get the Strat. You KNOW you want it!
Sweet, brand new, maple neck, arctic white...

'Cuz here's what's gonna happen:
If you come home without that strat, you're going to start seeing them
E-E-E-V-E-R-Y-W-H-E-R-E
and you're going to want it even more!
And it will start driving you slowly mad, and it will then start to affect your health, family, and relationships.

So I, as your friend, need to intervene:
You really need to GET the STRAT

 I ended up with an acoustic, I think it was the right choice. As it happened that Strat had gone when I got there so I consider that a sign that it wasn't meant to be!

I looked at a Takamine the other day, and it cried just that. Unfortunately for it, the next line it uttered was "Country road", which is why it is still on the wall.

I used to be a sucker for crying guitars, so much so that by the time I stopped buying the darn things I had amassed a collection of over 70! I think you have to quit the guitar addiction much the way strong-willed people give up tobacco - Cold Turkey.

In 2012 I bought 22 guitars. In 2013 I bought one - last month... and that one was pure weakness on my part - walked into GC, saw it hanging in the Used section and felt sorry for it. The best way to avoid buying guitars is not to hang around where the things are sold.

I think in 2014 I am actually going to start selling guitars. And amps, too.

I sense that you will see the wisdom of your choice.

I think you are right. Spent all afternoon and evening with it, it's weird adapting from Electric but it's rewarding when you get some nice clean passages of play.
