How on earth do people manage it?

Here is the thing, tomorrow I'm going guitar shopping, currently I own a MiM Tele, CV 60's Squier Strat and a crappy acoustic that I hate playing.

SO of course the thing to do tomorrow would be to go an get a decent acoustic to play to round out my collection. However after learning a new song on my Strat tonight all I want to do is pick up this lovely maple necked Arctic white MiM Strat tomorrow instead. Am I just being silly or would it be more sensible to go another electric as if I'm this tempted from the acoustic how much am I actually going to play it?!

I mean I know which guitar would make more sense, but I just don't know how I'm going to be able to walk away from a shiny new electric

Maybe I'll just sell my soul and get both

Hope everyone had a good holiday!

If you find an acoustic that you enjoy playing you will find yourself picking it up more to play.

Yeah that's exactly the thought I've had, whenever I've been at my friends I've loved playing his because it's a joy to play, so I think you're right on that. Theres just something magical about a new electric, ya know 8)

I hear you, Snowjoe. I admittedly also have a weakness, but it's getting better. If you have the financial means I would say there is no shame in owning both a rosewood- and maple-necked strat. Holding out to find something used locally would make the most sense financially, as this yields the largest return should you decide to play the guitar for a while and then resell it.

Or if you'd like to treat yourself, perhaps an upgraded set of pots, caps and pickups (bridge?) for your current strat? The CV is a tight guitar and those areas are primary examples where Fender made their cutbacks.

I've been giving this serious consideration actually, I think I'm going to try and play a few strats tomorrow and see how they feel, if there isn't a lot of difference in the neck then an electronics upgrade could be a good plan indeed.

In reality I could afford both a new electric and acoustic, but I know I shouldn't really spend all that money

I've gotten pretty pragmatic about my guitar buying lately. I put function before form. Bling doesn't sway me. I look at the features and I compare them with what I have. If a guitar has a combination of features that I don't have in another guitar than I'm interested and the bling factor gets some consideration.
I think the only guitar I could see myself buying based solely on emotion would be a Ric 360-6. Luckily I don't run into them too often. When I do, I just take a small cross out of my pocket and hold it up as I turn my eyes away.

I guess I'm at the point where I only will buy guitars that are different enough from what I have.
That doesn't mean there aren't other guitars I still want.

It's a matter of self control and maturity.

It would be good to have an acoustic guitar that you enjoyed playing. If you play guitar, you owe yourself a decent acoustic guitar. That is my ancient opinion. :P

I found my number 1. I'm still searching for my side arm. I have gone through a couple Fenders trying to find it. I'm gonna try another sometime.

That is true art. I happen to like crafted fret markers. Two of my Ibanez's have really nice one-of-a-kind abalone inlays. I say one-of-a-kind because each one is unique with different color patterns in each.

This is a bit of my Artcore.
