Old folks who like to say to turn it down because, "God isn't deaf, you know.." sometimes need to be reminded that He also isn't jumpy. An electric guitar amplifier isn't going to startle him. He also invented, hurricanes, tornadoes and thunder which are all pretty freakishly loud when you're up close. God is absolutely not afraid of or offended by loud music. In fact aren't we to make a joyful noise?

Hi
The previous church I played had a no amp on stage policy. So the guitarists and bassist had to use Line 6 stuff direct out out going thru the P A. Every one had to come thru the stage monitors. Then every got the disease " I can't hear myself Itus".
Do you use amp stand or propped on a chair so it's closer to ear level.
Or turn down and mike your amp?
Just remember the real reason why your playing for God. Play with your heart and....
Like the bible says.
"Make a joyful noise unto the Lord".

Forget the whole "band in church" concept, stick to piano and singers, simple. That's all we had growing up, no fuss, no muss, and even works without electricity. :)

LOL... Reminds me of a story a buddy told me a number of years ago about a friend of his who "subbed" for another guitarist in a church band. It was short notice and they'd just tell the guy the chords and have him play rhythm guitar on electric. But yet the story goes that the guy brought a few pedals with him, and when they did an uptempo piece, he clicked on a Boss Metal Zone or whatever pedal and rocked out! But yet it seriously didn't go over well and the guy offended pretty much everybody and was politely asked to leave! Apparantly church bands are very strict and way too prim and proper to allow someone to cut loose.

Yeah, it's church, not Madison Square Garden, so it isn't supposed to be about cutting loose, it's supposed to be reverent.

It is still music, it should swing, but it is about the band, not about one band member. Ask yourself, am I being heard, or is the band being heard.

Reverent? So that's why they threw me out in my revenant costume?

What's wrong with cutting loose... If the SPIRIT is inside of you?
It's a celebration for God's sake (pun intended!).
Is it about showboating?... I'm against that but... If the Good Lord's inspiring you... SHOUT IT OUT!!!!
This reserved crap don't cut it...
I grew up Catholic... believe in J.C. and the Crew... so I've a got every God Blessed Right to post this... No offense intended here but, what the heck is wrong with struttin' your stuff and shakin' a Tail Feather For for JESUS.. C'mon Now! He knows it's a party going down!

I am lucky to play in church I play in. Our church music is many styles of music. One of my favorites is a song called " My Glorious" by a band named "Delirious" check the song on YouTube. Also a lot of songs by "Lincoln Brewster". both ROCK!! !
