This is so frustrating. Basically, at church, I cannot play at levels where I can clearly hear myself, because then it'll be "too loud". Why does it have to be "too loud"? Why can't it just be "loud"? >_<

I max out my treble and mids on both my Blues Junior III and my EQ pedal, and I keep the amp volume at 6, master at around 2. I just cannot hear myself! And when I start to protest, my band members will go like "you have to work with us" or "this isn't about you." Gah!

And to be fair to them they are correct, it's about being in a band not standing there and showcasing your playing.

Think about what it would mean to clearly hear yourself above everyone else, thats a very strong level of volume to be able to do that. You find it so often that a band member thinks they are too quiet when in reality they are probably about right.

I recommend finding a spot to set up a small hand held recorder in the rear of the church and see what it sounds like. I record most of my onstage appearances and I have to admit that quite a few times that I wasn't happy with my tone or volume and I felt like I was lost in the mix, my recording showed I was being heard. Maybe not up front and center, but being heard none the less. On the other hand, it might be proof for your bandmates that the mix needs tweaking.

Well you could always get an in ear monitor system put that into the AUX send and walla  you can now hear yourself, or a small personal powered monitor like an Anchor or Caliphone place on a mic stand facing you. If your are not using a mixing console take a mic in front of your amp connected to the powered monitor now you can hear your self

You will just have to stand close enough to your amp that you can hear it. If that means that you are not up front, then so be it.

WWJD?

Jesus wouldn't play through an amp, on a guitar, and certainly not with a band.

Those things didn't exist back then.

And it'll be largely the same audience.

Anyhow, I'd think that in a church setting, they want someone playing rhythm guitar, not solo guitar.
Any "loud" would be "too loud".

Buxom, your right! He also didn't know what indoor plumbing was, or where the sun went at night.

I guess church policy is for guitar players to be seen and not heard, or there is some "guitar players curse" going around.

I'd go with ear monitor.
