I can now drum sufficiently enough to cover most of my bases when writing songs/riffs.

I got a good idea, but I'm not sure it would work.

What I'm thinking of is finding a good cassette studio mixer, or even just a higher end cassette tape recorder and use one of those tapes with a 3.5mm jack coming out of it to hook into my computer for recording. Of course, id upgrade my soundcard in my computer as well to accommodate.

Does this sound like a reasonable idea for a home recording rig, or am I retarded? :?

Merry Christmas, btw!

hi buxom , for basic recording (live) of your band just get a tascam and a couple of mics positioned in some sweet spot , sort out the levels and rock , i use an old yamaha md8 for recording our sessions sometimes and laying down ideas , the old tascam cassete 4 or 8 tracks are cheap on this side of the pond as is the yamaha md8 .

if you were going to use your computer , just install a recording program and use that , cheers
Alan

What I'm talking about is kind of doing half and half. Converting analog to digital for mixing purposes.

Running an analog tape recorder into digital studio software.

There are surely other ways but this one doesn't sound retarded. (deduct one PC point  ) The above suggestion sounds good. Whatever means allows one to capture what they do, any mix, with reasonable clarity and low distortion will work. You might end up inventing a cool "retro" sound.

I want loud, obnoxious, and trebly. I'm also planning on doing it solo, or maybe partnering with a friend of mine. I'm getting a lot of good ideas, a lot of good verses, and a lot of good riffs coming together. When I create a guitar riff, I try to match a drum beat in my head, then recreate it. It works, honestly. I've played over recordings of myself with headphones and liked it. I just haven't recorded it yet.
