Our local Classic BMW 2002 group (The Minnes02 Group) are all meeting at my fav. local Blues venue - Famous Dave's BBQ & Blues Club to see Chicago Blues Legend John Primer on Fri. Nite 12/27.

Primer was actually born down in the Delta - Cambridge Mississippi, but was raised in Chicago. He has been part of Junior Wells Band, Muddy Waters Band, James Cotton's Band and Magic Slim's Band.

It's a bit of a quest of mine to see as many of these old Blues Players as I can before they all disappear, they are a National Treasure for sure!

Seeing John (who I haven't seen since the 80's in Chgo.) is going to be a real treat ! Photos to follow!

Buddies, Beer, Banter, BBQ & Blues... what else could you want??

cheers!

Saw a True Legend last nite... John Primer. It's a priviledge to see these old Blues Masters while they're still with us and John was no exception.

John's story is almost archetypical... being born in the Mississippi Delta in a 3-room shack, losing his sharecropper Father at 4, picking cotton at age 7, being abandoned by his Mother and later joining her in Chicago with his one possession... a $9 Sears guitar. He learned from all the Greats - Muddy Waters, Howlin' Wolf, James Cotton, Magic Slim and on and on.

Great show, not his usual Real Deal Blues Band, but a trio of pick-up players from Chicago (better IMHO).

John played a Burst Epi and later a White Epi Casino piped through a Vintage Fender BF Twin.

Image

Did mostly standards, but a few from his recent award-winning CD.

His Harp player was amazing (can't remember his name).

Image

John's slide play was so raw yet deliberate... they aren't makin' em like that anymore.

He came over to our table at the break and sat and had a drink with us to the amazement of several of the Car Club guys... that he was so approachable and genuine.

He & I reminisced a bit about some of the old South Side clubs where I saw him 30 years ago, like Buddy Guy's orig. club, Lee's, Reggie's etc.

Many in our group never heard live Blues before and they all loved it.

Definitely a show to see if John is ever playing in your area !

cheers!

I love the spicy baked beans at famous Dave BBQ. I wish we had one around here. And being a blues club it's the best of both worlds. :D

Tru Dat !!

Their food is really very good !!

Actually this one is the original Famous Dave's (but the 2nd one built) which is a little confusing...

Famous Dave, aka Dave Anderson, is a member of the Wisconsin Ojibwe tribe and former head of the Bureau of Indian Affairs.

After he left the Gov't., he wanted to come up with a franchise idea for Native American Tribes to allow them a shot at the Dream.

He came up w/ the BBQ idea and literally spent 2 years travelling the country entering BBQ contests, which he consistently won - they truly are award-winning ribs.

Anyway, the very 1st Famous Dave's is located in Hayward, WI and was a franchise sold to the Ojibwe Tribe. So the 1st franchise was sold before the corporation even had one restaurant of their own.

Dave then built his first corporate restaurant here in Minneapolis.

He is such a Blues Fan, that he built the stage right in the restaurant just so he could hang out and rub elbows with all the great Blues players.

I met Dave many years ago and he's always kind enough to give me a front row center table whenever we go to see a show.

Gonna see the Lamont Cranston Blues Band there in 2 weeks and Tommy Castro & The Painkillers later in February !

cheers!

I've been blessed... or maybe just carry the perception that I have been....

Whatever it is, please don't pinch me... I don't ever wanna wake up !!

If I had known about this place , I would have checked it out. Myself and another music nut from work , were in Minneapolis for training the first week of October. The dealership where I work sells Indian Motorcycles , we were there for a new model / powertrain course at the Polaris Industries - Plymouth location .

Next time ........... and we'll rent a car too .
