Interesting, but I don't really see why Yamaha would need them.
Perhaps they have some Cunning Plan.

I like it. That's awesome. Yamaha makes kick $@! stuff. It'll be interesting to see Yamaha and Fender duke it out in the SS amp department. I'm anxiously awaiting that. Anyone who's heard Yamaha keyboards knows those guys know how to sample stuff. I've never heard a DG amp, but I have heard they're nice. Bring it on Yama-6. Join the party.

I'm with you Arth. Don't see why Yamaha needs them. But ok. Let the fun begin.

You are quite welcome, SBLS.

As good as Yamaha might be in PAs, their guitar & bass amps have always sucked for some reason. Do they even make them anymore?

As good as Line6 may have been, they threw in the towel on their bass amps over a year ago.

Fender is very clearly leading the way in digital modeling amps.

They make arguably the best busker's battery-powered guitar amps - I'd certainly take one over the Rolands, which sound very boxy.

But as I understand it, Yamaha will let Line6 continue as they have, as a semi-independent company. Which means they can probably get some assistance and easier be able to use patented tech, and gain access to a larger distributor network.
But I don't see a lot going the other way, except money.

I don't know look at what happened to Sunn when Fender took it over. Miss the original Model T that was just one of their great amps.

I used to own a 1st generation POD, and love(d) it.
I sold it to my drummer, and we use it extensively in our home studio. I find for ease if use and recording purposes, it's hard to beat. Years ago, I used it in a high-end recording studio (Luminous Sound) in Dallas when it was first introduced, and the producer and engineer were highly impressed; they loved the tone, the "silent" recording capabilities and the flexibility/choice of sounds...Line 6 is the tops in digital modeling, IMHO.

I have tried out several Yamaha guitars over the years, and have always been impressed by their sound, fit and finish, but (obviously) not enough to buy one. The only thing I don't like about many of their guitars is the super thin/"fast" neck profile (I prefer a bigger neck profile on my guitars [not on women, though :P ]).

They make (or used to make) a really nice rockabilly model that was a update of a hollow body Gretsch that I was most impressed with--but when I had the money I usually had other things I was lusting after, so it's still lurking on the lower end of the GAS list.

The Yamaha acoustic guitars--especially the early ones and the higher-end models--are pretty dang good guitars, too.

I only remember one Yamaha amp besides those little lunch box amps they're producing now...it was a modeling amp of some sort, and it had some kind of servo motor on each knob so it would automatically adjust the knob settings when the user chose a different model/saved setting. I don't remember how it sounded, though, so that may be an indictment of its sonic limitations.

I'd have to disagree about Yamaha making sucky amps. I once borrowed, when my Ampeg failed, this Yamaha bass combo with a 15" speaker (I think it was from the early 80's from it's design,) and it was a really decent amp. I couldn't tell you about anything from the last time they made bass amps though from a few years back. Never tried one. I've also always loved their BB series basses, too. That is something I'd like to add to the "arsenal" at some point.

I've always had the impression from other people who used them and from the frequent failure reports I've read on their own forum, that Line 6 was pretty much crap, or bad quality control. I've always been hesitant to even look into their stuff because of that. Perhaps with the Yamaha acquisition their quality control might improve, but who knows?

My Line 6 experience was actually sort of surprising. The Line 6 Studio 110 is my favorite micro. Gigged with it...really....patched into the PA. Still have it after 6 years and it has been super reliable. I would say that model is at least 1 step above crap. The other models above it in size and power didn't suit my need at that time and were all too big and too heavy. At the time I bought it I actually went to get a MarkBass 112 but came home instead with the Line 6. Never a problem with it. It was one of the first ones in at GC in Charlotte. Maybe they got crappy after the first run. Also their Variax bass was pretty slick. Also discontinued.

I think part of the issue with them dropping the bass line was that the guitar stuff sells 10 times better. They wanted to focus on what sold better.

Yamaha guitars are like any other line. There have been good and bad ones. The good ones are REALLY good. I had a red label Japanese folk sized FG75 in the early 80's that was maybe the best playing acoustic I ever had. Sort of miss it.

That is true. I remember reading about you having that amp and had no issues with it. It's like anything else, I suppose. For example: I remember reading about when the Peavey Tour 450 and 700 heads came out that they were failing left and right because of some triac chip or whatever it was called. It looks like they eventually ironed that one out. The thing that got me concerned with Line 6 was I've actually known somebody that had two amps die on him in a row and a lot of other complaints. I can't say from personal experience because I haven't used their stuff if they are actually crap, but I was concerned it might be because of this.
