That's great that they did what was right for you. I'm glad in a way my Am. Std.'s are plain with no bindings.

No need to send in the clowns just yet oxfan.

Thanks again to Rob Schwarz-Fender and Michael Roberts, Fender Custom Shop will do what's right. I received this email today;

"Hello Gary,
I am really sorry to see that. I spoke with Rob and the in house tech that has been working with this as well. What we are going to do is build you another neck but we will not have you send your bass in until the neck is completed and ready for assembly. This way you can play your bass and we will only need it for a week or so for assembly and setup."

I have to admit....you can't beat this kind of customer service. :)

You're right Gary, that is good customer service. Except they should have treated you this way the FIRST time you sent it in, and without someone else at Fender telling them to. Hope all goes well this next time around.

It certainly seems like it was very unusual the way this whole thing happened. I can't imagine this kind of thing happens all too often. Glad you got it resolved.

In another thread brotherdave referred to me as a "turn the other cheek" type. I guess maybe he's right. All due to my upbringing. My Dad taught me that making mistakes is human. It's what you do about those mistakes that counts. Do you try to sweep them under a rug or do you take them head on and fix them.
I did feel that the custom shop was trying to sweep it under the rug the first time around. When I inquired about appealing the denial, I was told that the custom shop had the final word. So I had given up on getting the bass repaired, but since Rob Schwarz-Fender got involved they have done the right thing.
I agree that this probably doesn't happen too often, but when it happens to you that doesn't make you feel any better. I didn't purchase this bass as an investment, however my plans were to play it and enjoy it for a few years then probably sell it. I know that it will get some road wear from giging with it, but I'm being as careful as I possible can in order to keep the re-sale value as high as possible. Manufacturer flaws doesn't help. I will still hang on to the bass for awhile, but I will not be using it on gigs anymore. My Am Stnd P-bass V will handle that role.

Just out of curiosity, how many dings are on your basses? I'd be willing to bet there are vey few, and no major ones at all.

This whole thing was ridiculous, especially when you got it back the last time and it had been trashed.

I think I'd have had someone deliver the new neck and put it on in your kitchen, shaved their head and sent them back with "THANK YOU!" written on their bald head with a Sharpie!
