Hey guys, long time no see. I decided the other day that I was going to build a guitar basically from scratch, starting with buying a body and eventually getting the right parts like the neck, bridge, and so forth over time. I want to make a versatile guitar for music like rock and metal from current and past. The key here is that I'm not entirely sure of all the parts that go into building a guitar other than some basic stuff. I'd greatly appreciate it if you professional players (I use that loosely, since I'm not a pro myself, haha) on here could help me gather a list of everything I need to buy to finish this project. Any bit that you can think of would be helpful!

Also, if you have any personal suggestions for the pickups, etc. that would help create the sound that I would like to have, let me know! I'm always open to suggestions.

Do a search here on this site with the words Partsocaster or Partscaster or Build in the topic titles only and limit your searches to the Strat and Tele forums so you don't find amp builds. You will find a number of build threads including one of mine. You can get some ideas of where to get things, what you'll need, how to proceed, etc. from those build threads.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

Why is this important?

I wondered aswell. I'm now building my first guitar, and I'm not sure how I would have been able to drill the neck holes in the right place of I didn't have the bridge in place. The holes for the bridge were pre drilled on my body, as were the holes in the pocket. My neck however needed drilling, and without having the bridge in place I wouldn't have known if my neck was in square or not.

Far as I can tell so far, my method has worked.

To the Op - my build thread is in the strat bit if you want to see what bits I've had to buy.
