Nice bass! 8) That's my favourite finish and pick guard combination, although I will say that the blue finishes have also go my attention.

I'm going to put on a Black Pearl PG on her. The Tort is nice, I just want a bit of a different look to her.

A black pearl PG should look killer. Post some pix when you're done.

Trick question; you need both.

Welcome to the Forum therobertcollins. I like the Precision and own 2 now. I like the Telecaster and owned a 68 model. Much like the Precision it has a low end that is the best in the business. I have gigged with a Bros Jazz bass and it is the next best bass and I would like to own one in the future. You can go with either one and be confident that you will sound great. They have a different feel because of shape body/neck. If possible try them both and pick the one that feels best to you. Hope this helps.

That would look cool, too.

I've used standard PG's for so long, I just like a bit of change of color on the basses. The Tort on the Fretless coming looks good. Some gold specs in it, but not a lot. It is nice going through Sweetwater for the bass. You can see what you're going to get, by choosing from the Guitar Gallery.

I think the Black Pearl PG pretty good too. First thing, Nylon Strings strung on it. I'll probably have the bass before the PG shows up anyway.

That is a VERY nice bass Mr. Nylon. I owned one just like it for a while and loved it. When I changed bands I decided I needed a fretted instead, so I sold it.

Back to topic:
I think that a bass player needs at least one Fender in the stable. Fender is the standard that all other basses are compared to. I currently own both Precision and Jazz basses. I just need at least one of each.
I played a 1963 Precision for 25 years and it was one hella bass. After I bought my first Jazz bass I became hooked on the feel of the neck. Being thinner, it improved my left hand speed right from the start.

My current stable includes:
2011 American Special Jazz
1985 '75 Reissue Jazz MIJ
Franken Fender Precision - with a Jazz neck

I wonder how Leo came up with the body shape for the JB? It's so sexy and cool. Way better than the P-bass body IMO. Leo was a towering genius.

It's tough to go with one bass type, when you like both bass types. I do like Am. Std. Series basses, and the fretless board. That's pretty much a Jazz.

Yeah, it actually is a tough decision. I think because they aren't exactly identical and each one has it's own merits. That's why it's great if you have both.

I've been saying for a couple of years now. I wish Fender would remake a Fender american deluxe 5 sting precision bass. Rosewood fret board with a burst body without red in it, with P&J pickups, Don't like the offset shape of a jazz bass. Now fender comes out with the Dimension bass??????
Looks like a jazz bass with short horns ?????

I prefer playing a Jazz. There is nothing like the tone of the split coil p-bass. If I was in the market for a new bass it would be the Jazz Bass Reggie Hamilton...P/J pickups and jazz shape.
