Sad News:
Jazz guitarist Jim Hall passed away early Tuesday at 83 years old.

Jim Hall, one of the leading jazz guitarists of the modern era whose subtle, mellow style of playing strongly influenced younger proteges such as Pat Metheny and Bill Frisell, has died at age 83.

His wife of 48 years, Jane Hall, says he died early Tuesday in his sleep at his Manhattan apartment after a short illness.

Hall in 2004 became the first of the modern jazz guitarists to be named a National Endowment for the Arts Jazz Master, the nation's highest jazz honor.

Hall was known for his duo and small group recordings with some of the greatest names in jazz during the past 60 years, including saxophonists Sonny Rollins, Ornette Coleman and Paul Desmond, pianists Bill Evans and Jimmy Giuffre and bassist Ron Carter.

RIP Jim Hall. You are missed but your music and contributions to Guitarists worldwide will live on forever.

Although I'm not the world's biggest jazz fan by a long shot,I have always been amazed by the incredible licks that some of the jazz guitarists like Jim Hall,Joe Pass,Metheny etc. were capable of doing. It's always sad to see a giant of any genre pass away.

Well, having been raised in Europe until I was 16, though born in Philly, (3M Int'l brat), I was exposed to way more Jazz than the avg. american teenager, and I AM a BIG Jazz Fan.

I first heard Jim Hall & Sonny Rollins on an LP called The Bridge from 1962. The Bridge featured Sonny Rollins (tenor sax), Jim Hall (guitar), Bob Cranshaw (bass), Ben Riley, Harry T. Saunders (drums), Dennis Charles, Frank Charles, Willie Rodriguez (percussion)...amazing stuff... still have the LP.

R.I.P. JH !

Thanks for the Music !!

cheers1

One of my all-time favorite albums is "Undercurrent" with Jim Hall and Bill Evans. Talk about some tasty jazz!
