I can't even remember when the last time I played a record. Arjay I do remember the nickel trick. That was along time ago.

I think all of us older peeps have done that in the past

I adjusted the counterweight...

For cleaning really dirty records, nothing worked better than silly putty - it would not leave any residue, unlike many of the professional cleaning products.

Well since most turntables in the 60's & 70's did not have weighted tone arms that was difficult. Silly putty was used to clean stylus back in the days. I still use a stylus putty.

Vinyl will give you better sound (less compression) than CD. But, there are many drawbacks. Now... does anyone make the same connection/argument (and problems) with tube amps vs. transistor? It's the hassles your willing to endure and the condition of your ears. MP3 gives poorer sound quality than CD's so we're not going forward in sound technology, only convenience and price. I believe a good percentage of the population today has not heard the quality of sound we were used to 30 or so years ago with our expensive, complicated, audiophile equipment. I still have mine, but seldom use it.

Indeed. Today's expensive AV 7.2 amplifiers have far worse audio qualities than even the cheapest class AB stereo was in the 80s.

It's not just the equipment, but the music too. It's so highly compressed and over-processed that it's a wonder our brains can recognize it as music. CDs are 16-bit, right? Except that the music on them is compressed to only 3-4 bits - zero and the top. It sounds much louder that way, and almost every musician since recording industry began has always asked to record them louder. Up until the 1980s, audio engineers had enough spine to say "no". Then came software and devices that made it possible for the "musicians" to say "fine, if you won't do it, I'll do it myself!".
Combine that with guitarists who want hotter, hotter and hotter pickups, and don't care (or are blissfully ignorant) that in their chase for a pickup that works like an on/off switch, they lose dynamics. A lot.
Then it goes through compressing pedals. Before the recording engineer gets his hands on it and removes the last remaining sound quality.

This is called progress.

I adjusted the counterweight on the tonearm and it no longer skips. Now I can finally enjoy this record. Thanks for all the suggestions. :D
