Does anyone have a suggestion for software that I can use to change the key of backing tracks without changing the tempo. Cheap is nice, but something that works good is my priority. I see one online called Pitch Switch, but I figured I'd ask before spending the money on something I know nothing about.

My personal opinion: don't bother. The ambient sound from the guitar is going to be off-key compared to what reaches the amp, and in my opinion, it sounds just plain awful.
I recommend a capo and a sub-octave pedal instead.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

If you can get your head round basic DAW software then Reaper has a built in pitch shift. The trial version just nags you for 5 seconds before starting and it doesn't stop working after so many days. Just drop an mp3 into an audio track and pitch shift it.

Gracias! I haven't installed it yet, but I downloaded the program. They sure make it difficult to figure out which download button to push to get what you want and not what they want to sell you.

I use Mixcraft for my DAW. I don't see that it has any pitch changing feature.

Mixcraft will do it, by the way. Select the audio clip, then choose the Sound tab. There's an "Adjust Pitch By" option.

Audacity can do it, and you can save the resulting file. Audacity is free.

Side note, if you just want change the speed while keeping the recording in the same key, believe-it-or-not plain ol' Windows Media Player has a speed control that does a pretty job of that. You just can't save it as a file with the speed changed.

Thanks Mike, that's the one BMW posted. I downloaded it, installed it, and used it to change one file from A to G to better suit my vocals. Worked like a charm. Thanks again guys!
