Who uses them? Can you recommend any? Bored at home without bottom while I play, need to keep timing.

Yea, I considered that as well but wanted to spice things up a bit :) ... although I dont want to get any hip hop or cheesy sounding beats.

One interesting thing you can try is ChordPulse - you can set up the tempo, chord progression and style and have drums and piano play in the background :)

How about backing tracks? Lots of them free online.

I've been interested in one of these myself. I hate putting together a whole track using loops. I was hoping something like this would be easier, but I've never used one, so I don't know.

Yea, I heard about the SR16, seem to be a good little machine, been made for a while too.
I have loads of backing tracks but always find myself lazy, have to put DVD in, navigate tracks, etc.. so I was looking for a table top unit I can just power on and blast through an amp to jam around.
I found one of the Ace Tone local to me, I guess precursor of Roland.
I gotta check youtube for that Boss.

There are bunch of vintage units demoed on youtube but not many play guitar through them, only with the modern digital ones. I seem to remember Fleetwood Mac and JJ Cale used them back then too.

Why not digital and only analog desired?

Yamaha has some vintage analog DD series units.

Well I dont want to deal with over complexity, display panels, programming, usb connections, etc... I just want to push power ON and select a beat. I want something that sounds good plugged into an amp, no cheesy Casio keyboard on demo :)

My drummer is definitely "Vintage"--he was born in 1951...and although he has some "replacement" parts, I can't truthfully call him a machine.

To program him to be faster, I just have to give him some coffee. :P

I have the Mark II version that I managed to find on Amazon.com awhile back so I can do some old school demos with a Tascam Portastudio 424 4-track while I'm hanging out in my office. I love that cheesy little bastard because it's so damned simple to program and use. I use to have another one years ago, but it was lost along with a lot of other gear I had.

Those are pretty decent, if you can find one. I wish they still made them, instead of those new ones with all of the extra crap that's a pain in the $@! to program and deal with.
