so, I really liked those black paisley strats last year when they were all over the stores, but when I had money to buy something they were gone, now there's one at the Sam Ash up the street with 3 cracks in the finish for 499....is that a good deal? anyone remember or know what the original street price was? Now that I've got this welding gig and I'm making decent money, I will be buying another guitar sooooooon. I played it, and it did play very nice. I'm thinking I can talk them down a bit more, though....the cracks are pretty noticable on such a pretty guitar. thoughts?

$499 was the street price new. I don't think it's a good deal for one with multiple noticeable cracks.
Sure, it's somewhat rare, but it's also a MIM model.

If it doesn't have to be paisley but other floral might do, Fender Japan still sells a black floral pattern one. It's a bit more than the Mexican model, but also purdy.

Dang, that is purdy.

L&C- I wonder if the series was prone to cracks. I remember seeing those. It was like guitar lingerie.

I'm arguing with myself now on whether to get a blue and a black floral tele :)

That's okay - I'll just tell tell the clerk they're for my wife and girlfriend.

I was talking trades with a supervisor at my local Guitar Center. Apparently they hold a pawn brokers license, and that is the way they approach their trades. He said that they use eBay as a guide as to what is being asked for gear and then offer a percentage of that figure as their buyout. 60% was what he quoted. Figure that, with the damaged finish and the questionable popularity of that pattern, the original owner got squat for his trade.

Nearly 20 years ago I purchased a used TelePlus [first generation], in great condition, for $300. About three or four years later I swapped it out for a used Clapton. They gave me $350 for it and then hung it on the wall with a $650 tag. :?

Only they come out ahead on these trades, always getting much more in return on the resale than what they offered you in lieu of cash on your purchase.
