Remember their southern rock take on the classic Chuck Berry riff/rhythm in "A"?

It's like they had that one big hit back in the late 80's or so and poof... they're gone and never seen nor heard from again. The ultimate "one hit wonder" band.

A one-hit wonder in the same vein as the Soup Dragons.

One hit, maybe, but a few great albums.
I think they were more like The Faces.

Singer Dan Baird has put out some decent solo CDs. He also was in the Yayhoos and some other projects. Very entertaining stuff.

The first concert I ever attended was the Georgia Satellites at Six Flags over Texas in 1988...it was Senior Night, and a hot one at that.

Great concert, great memories. I stole several ideas from them, including making "Keep Yer Hands To Yourself" and "It's Only Rock & Roll (But I Like It)" into a medley.

everybody in the band took a stab at singing lead vocals, too. The whole group was highly underrated.

The Faces comparison is accurate--lotsa Ronnie Wood-style leads.

Although it was a hit (and a real catchy tune), I think "Keep Yer Hands" kinda doomed them, too; everybody expected jokey, humorous songs every time, and they had some really good serious tunes that were overlooked...and I think that Rick Richards is one of the most underrated guitarist of that whole Berry/Richards/Wood style.

I was in Atlanta during 1987 when they had a cancer benefit for one of the members.

The Satellites and the Kentucky Headhunters should form a super group.

Black Crowes vol 1, great band, particularly if you consider how bad pop music was when they came on the scene.

I respectfully Disagree. Maybe one popular hit. But there was some good guitar playing with the original lead player, along with Baird. Thats if you like basic plug straight into the amp rock.

Baird called effect pedals help me boxes. Help me play. He rocking Pro juniors now.I dont agree about pedals, I got a few pedals I like.Listen to that first album, some good guitar playing going on. ymmv

Well, you must have never listened to any of the three albums with their original lineup or never saw them live.

I have the fourth album (half of the original lineup), and it's not too shabby, either...I never saw the "new" group, so I can't speak to their live performance prowess .

Did you only hear "Keep Your Hands To Yourself"? Even if that's the case, I don't see how you can say they suck...unless you just don't like basic rock & roll from the southern US.

They released that song in 1986, top 20 for that year:

1 That's What Friends Are For Dionne Warwick
2 Say You Say Me
3 I Miss You Klymaxx
4 On My Own Patti Labelle and Michael McDonald
5 Broken Wings Mr. Mister
6 How Will I Know Whitney Houston
7 Party All The Time Eddie Murphy
8 Burning Heart Survivor
9 Kyrie Mr. Mister
10 Addicted To Love Robert Palmer
11 Greatest Love Of All Whitney Houston
12 Secret Lovers Atlantic Starr
13 Friends And Lovers Carl Anderson and Gloria Loring
14 Glory Of Love Peter Cetera
15 West End Girls Pet Shop Boys
16 There'll Be Sad Songs Billy Ocean
17 Alive And Kicking Simple Minds
18 Never Heart
19 Kiss Prince and The Revolution
20 Higher Love Steve Winwood

If I may say so, this is some awful stuff, with the exception of Stevie Winwood (Who is a great guitar player) and Robert Palmer (and I could grudgingly include Prince), this is an absolute sea of mediocrity. I mean Eddie Murphy? Catchy guitar riffs had all but disappeared from radio. The Rolling Stones, who could usually be counted on to provide some relief were sporadic during this period at best, although in 1988 Keith Richard's would go on to release Talk is Cheap, one of the best, if not the best guitar album of the 1980s. The Satellites certainly deserved better, All over but the Cryin another great sone of theirs and Battleship Chains was another rocker.
