Well, I wouldn't be doing that at all and especially with a stock MIM Strat. However, if I have something that I feel is of more value than the going street price, for whatever reason, I won't sell it until I get what I think it's worth. Waiving a wad of new $20 bills under my nose doesn't move me. I don't know if it's rural living or not but I would rather give something away to a friend for free than let a stranger lowball me.

Amen to that. The price may differ depending on the buyer. Someone who's just interested in getting a good buy will have to pay a lot more than someone who doesn't have a lot of money but will put it to good use, and definitely never sell it for a profit.
And there are some people I would not sell to at any price.

Actually, when I said that I was speaking from personal experience. I bought a (cream board) Blues Junior about 9 or 10 years ago and I spent a great deal of money on it, speaker swaps, tube swaps and of course, almost all of the BillM mods that were available at the time. By the time I was done I was into it for nearly a grand. When I tried to sell it I got lots of lowball offers from guys who said it was no longer a true Fender amp and therefore basically worthless. After trying without success for a few months I ended up giving it away for free to a buddy who loves the heck out of it and I know he'll never sell it because it means something to him that I gave it to him.

Just think of how awesome a guitar player you could have been by now if you had only spent the last 10 years practicing instead of obsessing over pickups and roasted maple necks.

In other words, you got paid far more. A friend being happy is harder currency than cash.
