Anybody have an idea what a 1960 Sherwood Green Jazz Bass is worth?

Since it is a "custom" color it will go for more, but check ebay and the vintage guitar price guide for an idea of what people are willing to pay for it. What is the condition like?

Just average wear. I saw where some said around $75,000. Blew me away.

Ehh maybe, it is the first year the Jazz came out, and it has the desirable dual coencentric controls that people seem to want instead of the later three. Does it have the pickup covers, or mute system? Is the headstock painted as well? Post pictures of it, I would love to see it. But in today's market I am not so sure about the $75,000.

Thats crazy because there were a number of custom colors available in 1960 to 64 and in mint they would be 17 to 20G's at best.

Agree. 75K is way overboard on actual market value. I could see an especially nice all original example (9+ condition out of 10) appraising almost that high. An appraisal value is much higher than actual value though. Depends on condition but would expect actual market value now at 20 to 25K on the high side depending on location. Sunburst ones have recently sold for around for 16 to 18K in good original shape. The appraisal value might be twice or more of the actual market value. Take a diamond ring to a jeweler for an appraisal, he appraises it at 5K and when you ask him to buy it from you instead he'll offer you 1.5K. If you sell it to him he'll mark it up to 2.5K for resale. Appraisal and actual values are two vastly different things.

Trade you for a banana sandwich and first read of my comic.

Seriously though, if you're selling something like that then you need to speak to a vintage guitar dealer who really knows the market and probably has the phone numbers of a few potential buyers.

The economy has been tough on vintage guitars. Less disposable income for many to spend on such things the last 5 years and I don't see it getting better any time soon.
